OK. So I have a motion and thought I'd see what happened when I put a Verizon Sim card into it. Under settings I have the option to select CDMA. Which I did. The phone shows verizion 4G LTE now. I can use data and send texts but no calls. Any way to work around this?

No. The phone is physically missing the radio bands and types (CDMA) needed to function on anything non-LTE on Verizon (and doesn't fully support Verizon's LTE either). Given that neither Sprint nor Verizon decided to carry the Motion, it made no sense for BBMo to make a CDMA-compatible version of it, given that they'd sell so few without carrier support.

What you've got now is as good as it's gonna get.

I was going to buy one and try it on cricket.. that’s an option you might have too. Just worried about the slow downloads reported on cricket. I’m bummed that I can’t find a replacement for my z30 for Verizon..but after a security wipe I think it will still serve me for another year

"(and doesn't fully support Verizon's LTE either)" - can you elaborate?

My understanding is that they are now offering LTE pretty much everywhere.
