I have a Motion on Oreo. Does anyone know of a way to make notifications silent when the phone is awake?

I dislike the way the phone loudly announces that I received a text, when I'm already looking at the screen. I don't want to lower, or turn off the notification though, since it needs to be loud to be able to hear it when it's in my bag.

    This is one way...

In the app drawer, under Shortcuts, find the Ring Volume shortcut.

Place it on your home screen, and you can toggle between vibration, silent and normal.

    Hope it helps

Thanks for the suggestion! I was hoping for something automatic, but this may help in the meantime.

I thought that you were asking for an app that would recognize that your screen being on means that you're looking at the device so in turn wouldn't need a loud notification. That sounds useful.

If you drop down the phone at the top, where the Bluetooth, wifi ect., is ... there is a Do Not Disturb. There is a "Total Silence" you can use.

I used Priority Only, every night when I sleep to replace the Sleep Mode we use to have. And you can go to More Settings to adjust settings.

That is what I'm looking for. I would prefer a setting that would do that, but I'd take an app.

I use Gravity Screen, which emulates the Flip to Silent mode on BB10. If I'm in a situation I want to quiet the phone, I turn it upside-down.

    You don't need an app..

Not sure why you need an app., to do what the phone already does.
