Is there a way to create a single file backup, like we used to with the BB10?

I used to create backups on a regular basis. Now, I have "backup" turned on with Google. But that doesn't really tell me much. I'd love to have a bit more control of the backup procedure. Like is it constant? I suppose this is what happens when you lose the control of Blackberry OS to Android...

It periodically backs up yes. There is no full system backup unless you root and install TWRP, but right now I don't think the motion can be rooted. It will backup your contacts and Google settings, etc.
To backup your text messages you can use an app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...SBackupRestore

It installs to the recovery partition and you boot into it, not Android, to create full system backups before installing a custom rom on your phone. But you need root to do that, and afaik no Blackberry Android phone can be rooted. So it doesn't apply to this phone unfortunately.
To backup full apps and app data Helium is the only non-root solution I know of. It works together with a PC.

I believe you're correct on rooting BlackBerry. The backup thing can be an issue for those unable to use the cloud.
