I updated my apps (including the Bank of America app) the other day, and now my fingerprint sign-in has been disabled on the Bank of America android app. Fingerprint sign-in is still active and working for the phone. But when I go into the Bank of America app, sign in with my password (because they've disabled the fingerprint), and then I try to enable fingerprint sign-in for the Bank of America app, I get this notification from the Bank of America app:

"This device is already enrolled for a different online ID. Only one ID can be enrolled at a time. To enroll this ID, you must first sign in with the enrolled ID and turn off the fingerprint feature."

What in the world does this mean? I only have one Bank of America online ID. Just one. And no one else has ever even held my phone before, actually, and I've never signed in to Bank of America on another account, so it wouldn't be a mix-up there. My fingerprint has only been recorded on my phone, and my phone has been used for my BofA account and no one else's. So, I guess my question is, why am I being told my fingerprint is enrolled for a different ID? And, if it's because my fingerprint -is- enrolled for someone else's ID, then my questions are: how did that happen? And why would it happen? How could that be useful to anybody? Or was it because of some mix-up in BofA's recorded data? Or, if my fingerprint is -not- enrolled for someone else's ID, and it's just a mistake on BofA's part, then my question is, what mistake is being made, and how does it get fixed?

Did you add any additional fingerprints to your login for your fingerprint scanner on your phone itself? If so, that will disable the fingerprint scan for most apps that require security, such as banking apps. Are you able to login to your bank app using your username and password? Once you do that, then you should be able to reset your fingerprint scan for the banking app.

I guess the lesson learned might be to UNinstall apps that use FingerPrints (or similar biometrics) or remove the bio-markers from such apps before upgrading them. Somewhere in the bowels of "android storage" are remnants of old data (bio-metrics) and they may be different than the newer, upgraded app uses?????????

Have you either restarted the device or done a 32+ second reboot - maybe that could clear the system?

I wonder if wiping the device would clear it or if the data is stored on the bank's side of things?

    Good luck.

I have restarted the device and that didn't fix it, but I have not tried any of the other suggestions yet

Uninstalling and re-installing the app might work. I'll try that first, and if it doesn't work, then I'll delete the app again, delete the recorded fingerprints from my phone, restart the phone, then re-record the fingerprints on my phone, then install the app, then see if the Bank of America app will allow me to set up fingerprint sign in for the Bank of America app. If all that doesn't work, then I'll call Bank of America customer support and see if it is stored on the bank's side of things. (I don't want to try wiping the device because fingerprint sign-in isn't important enough for me to try wiping the device or anything extreme.)

Are you able to login to your bank app using your username and password? Once you do that, then you should be able to reset your fingerprint scan for the banking app.
That is what I already tried, but after I sign in to the Bank of America app using my username and password, then I go to settings and try to turn on the switch for "fingerprint sign in", it gives me the note "This device is already enrolled for a different online ID. Only one ID can be enrolled at a time. To enroll this ID, you must first sign in with the enrolled ID and turn off the fingerprint feature." I am given this notification when I am already signed in to the only Bank of America account I have. So I don't know why they are telling me that my device is being used for some different Bank of America account. I only have one online ID and I only have one username. And no one (other than me) has ever used my phone before, and I've never signed in to Bank of America on my phone except for my one account. I checked in the settings of the app and it shows just my one online ID, no one else's.

I liked the fingerprint sign-in because I wouldn't have to type in my password to access my banking app, so hopefully one of these suggestions (or something on Bank of America's end) will fix it.

Uninstalling and re-installing the app worked! Fingerprint sign-in works fine on the Bank of America app now.
