    Hello,

I just got a new laptop - Dell M3800, and upgrade to Windows 8.1
I tried many times and many methods (delete Blackberry Virtual Network, uninstall and reinstall, restart Z30) but I couldn't make it work.
It was only to connect via Wifi.
I was not be able to backup.

Please help me if you have any suggestion.
    It would be very appreciated!

Check if BlackBerry Link is compatible to Windows 8.1! Or right click on BlackBerryLink.exe then click on Compatibility tab. Tick Run this program, choose Windows 7. Apply!

    Link will run on 8.1.

Go into your settings on the phone and make sure you have it to connect via windows instead of the automatic.

Just bought a z30 and am having the same problem. I don't have the option to select windows vs automatic. Where does one find that?

I did the same things as you suggested but the problem still remains!

Do you think the problem is from USB 3.0?

You have to use USB 2.0 connection

I also have this same problem. Tried Link and my Z30 (before that, my Z10) and at best I get a connection that is painfully slow. Most times there is no recognition at all within Link. Win 8.1 recognizes the Z30 every time, but Link does not. I have wiped it from PC several times and reloaded it without success and I have tried two different computers. I think the problem is Link and not the phone or Win 8.1 and because of this, I gave up on Link months ago.

I think the problem is with Link. I un installed and reinstalled it and now it works. During the install there was an alert that some additional files were missing and had to added.

    All good now.

@vptsff. I cannot. The one time that Link worked for a backup the files were seemingly unusable for a restore when I had to actually use them. I've had no luck whatsoever with that application.

Also try different ports. Not all are created equal!

I will try to uninstall and install it again and will try again all ports on my laptop.
It is very crazy because when I compare both Links on 2 computers, there was a missing driver/component on my Dell when I connect my Z30 and my brother's Z10 to my laptop.

Which driver is missing. I have a Dell tablet also using win 8.1 and am having the same problem. I've gone through all the steps as you have and can't get link to work. It does on my work PC and my other laptop.

I tried many suggestions but none of them worked out.

Re: BB Z10 wont connect to Dell XPS 9530 via USB - BlackBerry Support Community Forums

I found out that the problem was from USB ports with Powershare that my Dell laptop came with.
If it was from the USB ports with powershare, that means I will have no chance to make Link and my BB 10 work because my Dell laptop comes with all USB 2.0 and 3.0 ports with Powershare.

    So crazy now!

It can't be turned off? That's odd. My laptop has a couple of ports I can't use when I go to install leaks.

    How about using a hub?

It is impossible to turn off! Sure, that's odd!

I haven't try it yet because I have no hub!

    What would I try now?

They are cheap. You could return one if it doesn't work.

Make sure under Settings, Storage and access, that it's set to 'Connect to Windows' rather than Auto-detect (or Connect to Mac).

    That's historically been the problem!

Try to turn off Wifi in your phone. I used to have the problem where it won't connect over USB if Wifi was on. I think cuz both would try to connect and then fail.

    Hi,
I just upgrade the OS to 10.3.0 and now Link and Q10 are connected via UBS port (any USB port)
So, the problem was from OS itself, wasn't it?
