The Z30 is almost 2 years old. Shouldn't the budget version of the Z30 be a Z30? I honestly don't understand the point of the Leap. Wouldn't that be equivalent to Apple coming out with a budget version of the iPhone 4?
You mean the iPhone 5c? Yeah, that was a flop.

They didn't spend **** on the Leap... most of it is reused parts from the Z3 and cpu from Z10,Q10,Classic. It's clear that the slider is the upgrade path for Zs at this point... Z3>Z10>Z20(Leap)>Z30>Slider(fulltouch and slider fans)

    Posted via CB10
Here's hoping the Slider actually has some decent Specs, atleast to match or improve upon the Passport. If BlackBerry isn't giving us the Z50, then please make this Slider upgrade the full touch line. I'm tired of seeing all this buzz over downgrades of what BlackBerry produced yesteryear.

The Leap is more affordable than the Z30. That's the selling point peeps

It's a BlackBerry Z30 on Big Red and still on 10.2.1

I understand that, but is it really? My point was that the Z30 was a relative flop to begin with and should be in bargain bins by now. Why not just price whatever remaining Z30's are in stock at the same price as the Leap? Specs of the Z30 still look better than the Leap, and that is a sad statement considering the Z30 is almost 2 years old.

Because once the Z10s and Z30s are completely out of stock they need a cheap bb10 touch device to replace them. This sits in the middle of the two. Z30 flopped because they were focused on selling the company on its release... it simply released at the wrong time.

Flop in what way? If your talking sales maybe but I will put my z30 against any iPhone or S5 any day and it was $300 less. If you are using a z10 don't even try to comment on a z30 unless u own one.
No lag ever and I have a boutique 12 gigs. No freezups maybe twice since I owned the phone. The sound from a z30 is three times as good as a z10. Battery about three times as good. Screen 27% bigger. Should I go on. Lol

Or they had a commitment with big red. I wonder if Verizon had dumped BlackBerry would they have survived? Did Verizon carrying BlackBerry's help save the company?

We'll never know. Financially I don't think it flopped. They didn't over produce like they did for the Z10.

I am thrilled reading this thread. I was looking and reading about the leap and saw absolutely nothing that would get me to consider it since I own a Z30.. I ordered my Classic and should have it tomorrow and hopefully I will be happy with it. I returned my passport, just too weird for me.... I want to buy (and usually do) every phone that BB comes out with. But I see no reason for getting a Leap...

    I'm not knocking the Z30 as a phone. I meant from a marketing/sales perspective.

BTW - I'm still very happy with my Z10. Battery life isn't great, but I manage with a portable charger and spare battery. Actually had the opportunity to upgrade to a Classic for free, but decided to give Classic to my wife and will keep the Z10 either until it completely dies or Blackberry comes out with a high end all touch device.

I'm with you, at least until my charging port fails again. Had it replaced on my Z10 when it wa8 months old, now just turning two,is starting to act up again. I have no desire to go back to an actual mechanical keyboard, and am waiting impatiently for the high-end replacement all-touch.

To me the Leap is a Z3 with better internals designed for the ROW (rest of world) market as opposed to the mostly indo asian market the Z3 was built for.

Appearance wise Leap is very much similar to Z3, I am surprised why it is not being said / projected so. And nobody on blogs also realized this?

It is step-up from Z3 and at the same time its several specifications gets a lot closer to Z30. Also the already settled price for Z30 comes closer to upcoming Leaps expected price.

But compared to Leap, Z30 is a premium device with Super AMOLED screen, faster processor, stereo speakers, better wi-fi capabilities, GLONASS (for GPS), USB Host functionality and HDMI port. If I had to buy a new device in that price range, I would prefer Z30.

Well, Z3 and Leap, both have FM Radio, and I don't think Z30 as a device supports wireless charging too, or is Verizon giving special edition with that functionality?

Wholeheartedly disagree based on both screen size AND battery life.
Screw the nfc and compass which people barely use.
This is truly an upgrade to the z10 by all means.

Check photos of BlackBerry Z3, you shall see almost 90% similarities to Leap. And hopefully you will agree that Leap is an upgrade to BlackBerry Z3 and none other device.

Leap is 2012 spec phone..i wish BlackBerry can make camera like Nokia. BlackBerry camera and its map needs to get serious update. Other than that it's OK though it may be cheaper for higher sales.
