My wife has a Classic that is starting to have trouble after 30 months of use. BlackBerry 10 continues to serve her needs, so I'm looking at either buying a backup Classic or perhaps a Leap. Spec-wise, they look pretty much the same. Does that similarity come through in terms of real-life performance?

As someone who is currently using both a Leap and a Classic, I agree with this statement 100%.

    Pro Leap:
The Leap's screen is taller and its VKB lets you "flick" suggested words onto the screen.

    Pro Classic:
Keyboard, keyboard, tool belt, keyboard. You can do a lot without touching the screen.

Battery is way better on the leap. I've owned both and the leap lasts you a day and a half

I'm surprised by that. I suspect something is wrong on your Classic.

The Classic has a 2515mah battery, and the Leap has 2800mah battery with a much more power-hungry screen (bigger, with 77% more pixels to drive). It should work out about the same - if not, favour the Classic.

Doesn't favor the classic at all...classic would never last that long and it didn't have any issues..i think the leap may just drain less battery I don't know all I know is this thing is a beast

You keep it on Battery Saver!? Wow. BB10 struggles enough without throttling the CPU constantly.

Well, BlackBerry somewhat agrees with you.

    Classic: 22 hrs mixed use
    Leap: 25 hrs mixed use

My experience is that they are pretty darn close. Probably because the pkb reduces the amount of time the screen needs to be on (hence usage time is less), bringing the two times closer together.

I find depending on use it can. But it would have to be very moderate.

My Classic will do ~2 days light use. Neither leap nor classic will do a whole day of heavy use.

Leap outlasts Classic with screen off on stand by in my bag. I notice zero difference with lots of screen use.

I prefer Classic. I don't really type with VKB.
