Why would I buy a Leap when the Z30...
    ... is the same price,
    ... smaller, thinner, lighter
... has the same specs (same screen size, same SoC, same memory/storage, same camera...)
... offers NFC and USB To Go

What made you consider buying a Leap ?

Because the Z30 is increasingly harder to find, and some people prefer the brighter lcd screen and overall aesthetic design of the Leap. As Thurask points out bellow, the Leap also supports double the number of LTE bands.

BTW, the Z30 has a faster processor (1.7 GHz versus 1.5) and better GPU (Adreno 320 versus 225). It also has HDMI out (in addition to what you already listed).

the Leap is cheaper and newer. I have had my Z30 for over a year....it's actually two years old now. I'm not sure the specs are the same either. I think the Leap has improved specs.

Unfortunately not. But it suits its role as a low cost fleet phone well. I've used one and it's quite nice.

Better battery and screen (in my opinion) and my carrier supports it.

I also wanted a device which wasn't EOL and was still in production.

Well, Leap is newest full touch BlackBerry. I think, it is preinstalled OS 10.3 and support 4G global would be factor for me to decide to buy Leap next time or not. The price is expensive now. But, maybe I can choose Android.

It was free on contract from my carrier, was an upgrade from my Q10 in various ways, and was an inexpensive way to try out my first touch screen BB10 device.

I had originally looked for a Z30, but no carriers in my area had them available. So Leap it was. And I'm happy with it.

I'll be perfectly honest and shallow. I don't like what the Z30 looks like. The two tone front and round corners go against my aesthetic preferences. I'm coming from a Z10 and never had an issue with performance so I'm perfectly happy with the Leap, although it may actually be too big... :/

Me. I got the Leap (moved from a Z10) because of the price, bigger screen, battery, expandable (128GB's) memory, design, functionality and more importantly because it conformed to my needs as a customer and what I was looking for in a new...ok...newish , BlackBerry all touch device.

I briefly considered getting the Z30 but given the price, even with the recent price reduction, and the fact that it is a two years old device and kind of reaching the end of its life cycle, I decided against it . Even though it has some specs that are missing on the Leap. But it is still a good device and should serve well still if you chose to buy it. Just keep in mind that the Z30 stocks are dwindling quickly.

The Leap has served me well so far and I've had no reason to regret buying it. I boxed my Z10 but will keep it as a back-up device just in case. I will get an even better idea of the Leap's performance once it reaches the six months and one year mark. By then it would have proved it's real worth.

Oh and I bought my BlackBerry Leap factory unlocked from BlackBerry...

Why is that weird? Not that I would consider that a factor when making a purchasing decision between the Leap and Z30, as both will have their standard 1 year manufacturer warranty upon purchase. But speaking from experience, it does get harder to repair a unit if it's on a EOL listing because the parts aren't as readily available. Especially so if you've purchase it from a carrier store who won't even carry a Z30 let alone other BlackBerry devices.

In the case of the Leap and the Z30. I don't think the majority of consumers will hold on to either device long enough to worry about in warranty repairs and lack or replacement parts though, that's why I personally wouldn't consider it a legitimate reason for picking the Leap over the Z30.

    Look! It's Zedzilla30!

I grabbed a leap free just for renewing service I was going to use anyway... it's a good phone to hold, screen is really nice.

I missed the compass more than the NFC, I use the stargazing apps.. and I actually use OTG USB. So I packed it up.

Will sell or give to family...

I have never used NFC or HDMI on my phone, and the Z30 is larger than I want my daily driver to be. Moreover, my Z10 is more than fast enough for all the apps I run, so the extra horsepower of the Z30 provides no advantages to offset the fact that I don't like the form factor of the Z30.

The Leap also has additional bands, though I don't know us that will matter for my carrier.

For me, the Leap is a better upgrade choice to replace my Z10.

If I was just coming off my Z10 right now, I might consider the Leap, as it would be newer and easier to get hold of. As it stands I got the Z30 before the Leap came out, and love it. I do miss the screen resolution of the Z10, however.
