The Leap wasn't really intended to be a step forward, just a new low cost all touch device.
It does seem a bit weird that the q5 has a compass and NFC but the leap doesn't even though the specs are better. As the comment above said, the leap was just designed to be an upgrade to the Z3 and be a budget device.
I've used NFC on my q5 about zero times so that's not a problem for me but I do miss the compass as it was nice to play around with.

The q5 was much more expensive than the leap at launch..
Don't miss it. Verified several times with my hiking compasses and GPS unit and it's been inaccurate on all my BlackBerry devices.

People seem to forget that the Leap is only $250 at launch and not $700 that the Z30 was or slightly less for Q5.

I would have gladly bought the Z30 however Telus no longer carries it. :(
