    BlackBerry Leap

I am buying it as a back up phone for sure (Z30 is my main phone). Plus I prefer LCD over the DIM Amoled we have on the Z30.

Edit: Can a Moderator please change the title I meant to say Leap Landing page now on Shop Blackberry Canada for $349.

    American.

Since their currency isn't tied to dead dinosaurs, it's valued higher at the moment.

It's expensive because people are comparing the price to the current value of the z30 but I understand why you would want the lcd screen. I'll buy when it's on sale

This leap is what the Z10 should have been when it first came out 2 years ago.
Bigger battery, a tad bigger screen, miracast.

The rest is the same on the inside... the battery alone may be worth the upgrade from a Z10 tho.

For a phone that should of came out 2010-11. I cant see how 349 + tax and maybe shipping is expensive. The phone should be 200 - 250 CAD

Love the "Should be" crowd when it comes to pricing. All I can assume is these users would prefer a deal as opposed to BB surviving... right now the only thing keeping them afloat is the margins they make on device sales. So yes, let us cut down those margins, have Blackberry make less money and eventually run out of money and go out of business. Yup, just wonder what you "cheap' BB users will do if BB goes out of business. Oh wait, is that a nice Chinese Android I see, bright, shiny and most importantly.... CHEAP!!!!

$349 for a new 5" touch Blackberry is reasonable. Yes, I could probably get a droid phone, but it's NOT a Blackberry. It doesn't have BB10. I don't buy phones based on price alone. That's silly.

It's not so much as looking for a great deal but knowing/educating guessing/pessimistic outlooking that a non-blackberry user is unlikely to purchase a Leap at this price when they can get an equivalent Android or Windows Phone handset for less.

Don't get me wrong, this 'initial' pricing is a lot better than the Z10/Q5/Q10/Z30 'initial' pricing but I would probably recommend a Moto G over the Leap which can be had for about $150 less. Actually right now I'd recommend Q5's ($99 CDN), Z10's (about $200 CDN if still in stock), and Z30's ($250-$350 CDN) all before I would recommend the Leap since performance will be pretty much the same. (Yes, I know these will run out eventually but until they do, I'd still pick up any of them before a Leap).

Essentially, based on BB's past experience, I don't see this selling in huge numbers as it isn't at the price point which will generate the sales that the Moto G's and Lumia's 500's and 600's did. (Heck, it was the Lumia 500's and 600's that gave Windows Phone the marketshare it has today since they cost under $200, enough to offset the, in my opinion, relatively crappy phones... Though of course Nokia still went under so while they sold loads of phones, it didn't help their bottom line).

Anyways, again, it isn't so much about being cheap, but by being affordable enough that people will choose this phone over similar Android and Windows Phones so that BB actually gets a 'sale' (something it really needs and unfortunately has been failing at). And regardless of the exchange rate, I don't think $350 is it (in my opinion). I hope I'm wrong but I think they will have been better off producing a phone they could sell at around $200-$250 in the US and Canada.

I agree and have a Z30 but it is EOL and will be off sale soon once stock is out. For a "new" device specs aside it is a cheap phone option for people looking to buy a phone off contract.

$349 for Q10, Z10 specs is too expensive in 2015. Especially during the time the Leap has launched, BlackBerry users can pick up a brand-new Z30 for $250 CAD. The only thing the Leap has as an advantage (if you want to even say it's an advantage) is its LCD screen.

Personally, I prefer the Z30's amoled display for its efficiency and color representation.

    Look! It's Zedzilla 30!
