Got my leap and so far I really like it but the up volume and mute buttons are dead and provide very little feedback. I heard a few folks saying they too had dead keys but the question is: is it worth returning or is this just a design flaw with the leap??

Mine work fine, but it took some getting used to because they don't stick out as much as I was used to on my Z10 that had a case on it.

I assume once I get a case (when someone finally starts making them) it will be better.

Got a replacement on the way from amazon. I pondered just ducking it up but the buttons do really suck on this phone.

I had a similar issue on the volume up for my passport. I'm pretty sure it's the same parts. Got the phone replaced and now I can click to my hearts desire

Have been using mine for a week now and haven't had any problems with the buttons so far (knock on wood). I put a case on the Leap and they are still as responsive as before.

What happened in the beginning is that being used to the protruding buttons on the Z10, I was used to press harder on those. There is no need to do so with the Leap. The buttons on the Leap provide a different tactile experience.

Now if the buttons are unresponsive. Then I'd guess that is a hardware problem, not a design flaw...

If you've bought a new Leap you have a 30 day money back guarantee and a one year warranty from BlackBerry.

Firm buttons don't qualify for a return unfortunately. That's the issue I'm experiencing.

Not for an exchange you can't! You're required to run the BBVE app to send them a snapshot as well as system data logs in order for them to verify a malfunction. BlackBerry Technical Support is a gruesome joke.

But I suppose you can just opt to return, paying for return shipping and re-purchasing the device. But that shouldn't be an option for anyone. BlackBerry should honor a customer wanting a simple exchange.

I have that problem with my Z10. The side buttons are great, but the power button has problems if not pressed firmly.

All my Leap buttons work perfectly. They click properly and do what they're supposed to do. I didn't even un-box the sealed container until I got home. Actually really liking the Leap for some reason. Just feels good.

Yeah, I would say it's simply a design flaw on the device, if you return it you MAY get a better one but I don't think it's worth it.

My Up & Mute keys are perfect but the down volume key is looking a little tired and squishy.
