My company upgraded me from a BlackBerry Bold 9900 to a BlackBerry Leap today. It's a pretty nice device. Feels sturdy in the palm, and the back has a rubbery feel to it so it doesn't slip out of your hand.

The screen is very bright and the colors look pretty vibrant.

Overall, I'd give it an 8/10. It's pretty capable for a "budget" device and I received it with 40% battery life and used it heavily for 5 hours and still had just over 20% left. I'm optimistic this will improve as the battery gets broken in.

Feel free to ask any questions or if you want me to test out a capability.

Are you in the US or Canada? Can you take a picture of the whole bottom side of the device? Where the micro-usb charging port is? I want to know if it has those horrid symbols printed.

    I'm in the US.

All of my cameras are potatoes, but yes, it has the "C E 0 1 6 8 " and trashcan symbols. They are a very very similar color to the phone, so I didn't notice them until you asked. The camera on my Classic can't even pick them up.

I am using z10 and is it better than that. Of course you haven't used z10 but you might have seen it. Is it good to upgrade from z10?

I work in public accounting, multiple offices and employees. The IT person and I are friends. He knew I was interested in BlackBerries, so he ordered this one for me. I'm not sure if or how many other Leaps were ordered. I do know that there are a good amount of Z10s, Z30s and Bold 9900s still being used by my firm.

No, I don't miss the trackpad or keyboard...yet. I will say that when I get bored with BlackBerry and I use my Windows Phone or my Nexus, I instantly miss the Classic's keyboard and trackpad.

I've used some BB10 all-touch devices before, and the keyboard experience is by far the best. I imagine if I am ever struggling to use the phone with one hand, I'll miss the trackpad.

Like every other BlackBerry 10 device I've used (Passport, Q10, Q5, Classic, Z30), the browser is probably the best mobile browser experience there is, rivaled only by Firefox on Android. It's very smooth, I've noticed no lagging when loading pages or scrolling through them.

Is amazon app store lagging? Did he try Asphalt8. How smooth is it. I find my z10 slow when playing games and amazon app store

Speaker is loud and nothing I'd brag about. It fails in comparison to the front-facing stereo speakers on the Z30 or HTC M8.

I am a soon to be ex-iPhone user looking for their first BB. Based on your experience, what would you recommend? The Z30 or Leap? I am not a power user and only use a phone for daily consumer things.

The nicer screen, newer device and preloaded 10.3 all sound compelling.

    Thanks

The Z30 is cheaper, but apparently it won't be receiving any further updates from BlackBerry.

EDIT: The above is incorrect. I believe I confused corporate support for general support.

Many people complain about the dim AMOLED screen on the Z30, so if a bright, good-looking screen is a huge thing for you then the Leap wins.

If it were me, I'd go for the Leap because of the newness and future support.

Just out of curiosity why are you abandoning Apple? I am a loyal blackberry user owner for years now just I am curious what moved you to swap to BlackBerry. Not wanting to sound to BlackBerry proud but the BB10 OS is a communication workhorse in my opinion. The amount of easiness in the hub for finding old emails, forwarding, sharing, editing is above Android or Apple! Good luck with your choice but note that if you are an avid app user you might not like BlackBerry. If you want a phone you can use for communication emails messages etc and phone then BlackBerry is for you. The Leap would be a good starter device for you since you get the latest OS and for the future sure upgrades as it's the newest phone on the fleet. If you are switching platforms perhaps you should try it for a few weeks maybe with a different sim and see if it suits you before crossing over to the BlackBerry side!! The Slider is supposed to be the flagship phone although not enough data on it yet. You will love for sure the hub and the BlackBerry virtual keyboard. One needs to try to believe.

    Good luck with your choice.
