I've set the screen lock shortcut to trigger on "L" keypress. But it locks the screen in a way that you need the device administrator PIN to unlock and not fingerprint. Is there a way to just turn off the screen? Requiring only fingerprint to wake.

This has been answered many times in the forum. It's Android level restriction.

When you lock using 'K' or 'L', it uses Administrator level rights while pressing the power button and/or double tap is current user level rights.

When phone is locked by an Admin then you need to use primary method of unlocking, ie pin or password.

As a suggestion, try double tap to lock on the home screen to lock if you can't use the power button. It doesn't take too long to get used to it.

If you're not going to be attending the phone for longer period then use keyboard shortcut to lock it.
