Does anyone know what this app is? I suddenly have this in my list of updates in playstore on my Keyone after recent updates to November -on sprint network. Does it need to be updated? Thanks.

"RCS is an advanced communications type that allows you send modern-day SMS or MMS to people. That means sending higher-resolution photos, read receipts, better group chat, etc. It’s sort of the future of SMS through your carriers and Google is attempting to lead the charge on it with its Android Messages app." That's what the Carrier Service App is for....

Why would you not want to keep your software up to date?

so hypothetically, if i don't use Android Messages app, and instead I use Textra, that mean i do not need this app, correct?

thats correct. Textra is scheduled to support RCS soon but I don't think its ready yet.

So when Textra eventually does support RCS, does that mean i will need to download this Carrier Services app?

It may prompt you to DL it. Perhaps you won't need it if Textra enables an option to turn off RCS in the app.

Because dtek will tell you your system has been compromised, for one.

    Happened to me yesterday.

To be more precise, I installed said update for Google Carrier Services yesterday and a few hours later DTEK was informing me that some app has compromised operating system security. It advised me to do a factory reset.

Luckily, I didn't do a factory reset and instead started searching the web. It turns out, the Google Carrier Services update can cause that DTEK warning. I hope no-one goes through hours of setting up their phone again, just to notice the warning will come back after updating that same app again...
