Your 3 most useful keyboard shortcuts? (physical keyboard or onscreen)
- A)What are your 3 most useful device keyboard shortcuts in order of usefulness (name BB device), and why? or list all your favourite/frequently used.
B)What keyboard short-cut(s) feature would you like to have, that don't currently exist on your BB device(s)?
For example:
A)
1) [SPACEBAR] (passport)- to scroll a page at a time on documents/web pages
2) [volume up][volume down] (passport)- to take a picture without having to touch the screen
3) [w] (passport) - to access/call voicemail
.
.
.
B) (passport) to reverse scroll up a page (doesn't exist on passport, that I can tell)04-08-17 04:03 AMLike 0 - (You're new, so we forgive you for asking "US" for an opinion)
Prepare to have about as much of an idea at the end of this thread as you do now.
Everyone knows the 3 most useful shortcuts but you'll find that most everyone's opinion differs from each other.
So, take cover. At first, you'll get a few different opinions then as the heat increases people will debate each other which will grow into all out war.
(So far, in 10 years, though, there have been no reports of injury) although I do remember the site crashing once or twice.04-08-17 05:19 AMLike 3 - 04-08-17 09:59 AMLike 3

- Yes the Priv has the [Shift] key which allows you to reverse paginate. As in: [Shift][Space Bar].
Alas the BB10 Passport does not use a [Shift] key, so no reverse page, that i can tell.anon(3641385) likes this.04-08-17 08:35 PMLike 1 - In Browser [U] will highlight the URL of the page your are on and bring up the cut/copy/paste floating menu , so that you can quickly copy the url, to paste to a note, a BBM, a text message or whatever.
[t] -brings you to the top of: a web page/adobe file/docs to go/ notes/text message list/file list etc.
[B] - brings you to the bottom of the same...
[i] -zoom in /Browser/Adobe pdf reader/Docs to Go: xls docs(xls spreadsheet, or doc)/Calendar etc...where programmed.
[o] -zoom out
(this is not to be confused with the Accessibility option for disabled users [Settings][Accessibility][Magnify Mode] -which zooms in/out for everyone everywhere (like when you lose you glasses,or the font is too small somewhere for the visually challenged), for which Blackberry has some excellent features.. like Screen Reader for the completely blind in BB10 (not sure if its in the Blackberry Android devices, try them out they're neat!)
In Calendar App depending on what view is current (day/month/week/week list/year):
[t] Brings you back to Today
[n] Brings you to the next day/m/w/year/week list/ view.
[p] Brings you to the previous day/m/w/year (to the current one you are on)
[d] Brings you to Day detail view
[m] Brings you to Month view
[w] Brings you to Week view
[a] brings you to Week list view (appointments for the week in a list details)
[s] Brings you to Search Calendar events /subject/participants/locations/notes
[c] add an calendar entry
...there are more depending on the specific app you are using, and whether the developer of the app included keyboard shortcuts for their app (when looking for app specific keyboard shortcuts)
Like on a full fledged desktop pc os (Windows/Linux) power users want keyboard shortcuts to do frequently repeated tasks very quickly. Blackberry smartly built that into their keyboard smartphone devices and apps, which no one else has, as far as i can tell.skinnymike1 likes this.04-08-17 09:46 PMLike 1 - I have owned a BlackBerry since Pearl Flip 8320 which includes 8900, 9790, 9900, 9930, Z10, Z30 (X2), Classic, Passport (X4 Original Recipe, ATT, and SE which I still have as it was my favorite), Priv (X4) (as I have broken two and tried again ATT) and D Tek 60
Probably even forgot a few...
I am like everyone impatiently awaiting Mercury.

In contrast: short pressing of any alphabet key will bring up the Blackberry Assistant ..showing lists of all the [Instant Actions]..[Applications]..[Documents and Files]..[Settings]..and more..corresponding to the [letter] pressed)
[U] - launches Calculator
[F] - Docs to Go (F as in Financial(?) Spreadsheet)
[K] - Loc[K]s device
[O] - Launches settings.....and this is where you can CUSTOMIZE your short-cuts (somewhat on PASSPORT), and review the pre-set ones on your device. Can also be found in [Settings][Shortcuts [Speed Dial] (and [Settings] is found by swiping down from the top of the screen and selectings the [Settings] option)
[R] -Switches to Reader mode in Browser...Where the page can be audibly read to you (if the page is predominantly a text page/ and can be converted to text. This works if there are some images, and there are blocks )
[I][o] - zoom in/out (does not work of course in edit mode in docs to go/ but does work in read-only mode)
In the Browser: (the following list is available in your browser in the tabs mode (new tab)...select the menu [:] [Settings][help] which brings up help.blackberry.com and your specific device...select the Keyboard shortcuts:Browser link from that web page.
[n] -forward a page
[p] - back a page]
[s] - search for text ...on page
[u] - open address bar
[k] - open boo[k]mar[k]s
[h] -open [H]istory
[W] - open tab/tabs
[R] -Reader mode - where if it can render it, it will read the page to you, especially if you are multi-tasking with something else on or off phone. (though you can't then open a new tab while the reader is running, but your can work around by opening a private browser instance first)
[L] -Reload page
[i] -zoom in
[o] -zoom out
[t] -top of web page
[B] -bottom of web page
[spacebar] -page down the screen
[shift][space bar] - page up the screen ([shift] key not available on Passport / Passport uses long-key press for switch between caps/lower case instead . Depending on the context (Beginning of sentence first letter is Caps by default, rest of sentence Lower Case is default)04-10-17 01:29 AMLike 0 - Not a keyboard shortcut....but touch title of page in web browser also brings you to the top of the document ...like pressing "T" for top (Both Priv, and BB10 devices). just read this in another thread... t top b bottom05-15-17 01:20 AMLike 0
- My favourites are speed dial, texting and emailing shortcuts. One press for the people I contact the most.
Shortcuts I want added are custom hub view shortcuts and camera shortcuts where the app can be launched straight into a desired setting. I always get caught out after experimenting with the camera.
Need those swipe gestures back really.
I also want a hub productivity tab or at very least a shortcut that goes directly to the hub filter view. Have set up a shortpress hub shortcut to the 'a' key. That way I can double press it to get this view. Bit of a workaround but it seems to be the best way to do it at the moment.
Swipe down on the fingerprint scanning spacekey for notifications should be added soon hopefully. It's on some nougat devices.05-15-17 02:10 AMLike 0 - Classic
Other than usefulness of the volume keys defaulting to sound and not the notification sound and the dedicated call and end keys...
1) browser shortcut esp T and B for up and down and reader mode
2) using the shift key and alt to delete from the 'front' and selecting text using the trackpad.
3) spacebar to scroll paginate is always a good one

- I never liked keyboard shortcuts on BB10 because they take so long to launch. It's just faster to interact with the screen (honestly, that's what BB10 was designed for).
But from my 9900, my most used shortcuts were 's' for search, 'm' for hub/messages, and alt+1 for connection management.05-15-17 07:02 PMLike 0 - Word Suggestion DATE/TIME - and other preconfigured and user customizeable:
[Settings][Language and Input][Prediction and Correction][Show prediction]
(when enabled) in (BB10)
..... in same screen [Word Substitution] you can add your own [+Add Shortcut])
Built in ones include...
typing "ld" with suggest todays date, which can then be flick selected.
typing "lt" will suggest the time now, which can then be flick selected.
and....
typing: mynumber will autosuggest your actual phone number (which I forget all the time)
....
one that you can add on your own is a footer to an email ....like footer... and add
Salutations, your name, your phone, your text, your bbm etc, your website etc
(note your customization, including multi-lines might show up as a blank suggestion or partial suggestion, as the suggestion box is not multi-lined when you are actually using it)Last edited by i_plod_an_dr_void; 05-17-17 at 05:39 PM.
05-17-17 02:39 PMLike 0 - The shortcuts can work from the Hub and the Dialer as well (instead of speed dial -user configurable) BB10 -passport05-17-17 05:37 PMLike 0
