For whatever reason (not for this post), BlackBerry found themselves at a nearly impossible position, some say close to if not literally getting wiped of the face of earth…

Any person that would receive the opportunity to revive a dying known quantity business will also receive a good amount of criticism for things they did not cause to begin with nor can save or change for that matter simply because they are the person in charge.

John Chen is emerging as a top surgeon and this is boys and girls no simple ‘in & out’ surgery. Fact is, BlackBerry is around in 2017 and it is here to stay however if we LOVE what BlackBerry has and will have to offer in the future then we do not abandon ship mid-surgery! And here are some examples why:

    1. Chances are you are not phoneless at the moment.

    2. Samsung, LG, HTC, Sony, Apple (you name it) has most likely no intention of making a phone with a physical keyboard and even if they do, it won’t be as nearly as good. Attempts were made in the past and they were not very good.

    3. BlackBerry seems to be limiting their software to BlackBerry devices only. Examples:

    a. Productivity Tab
    b. Virtual Keyboard

If this trend will develop then even if you get yourself a shiny Galaxy S8 you will most likely be unable to have the full BlackBerry experience.

Now, how long will the surgery take? AS LONG AS IT DOES, AS LONG AS ITS SUCCESSFUL AND BLACKBERRY STAYS ALIVE!

BlackBerry staying in business is more important than launching KEYone. There is a bigger picture here and by seeing recent developments I trust JC will steer the ship in the right direction but even that doesn’t guarantee BlackBerry smartphones development will continue much like IBM is no longer a PC manufacturer!

Question: Why did BlackBerry expose KEYone 4 months ago without being able to ship it to consumers timely?

Answer: Does it matter? Anyone that wants to abandon ship, leave.

Nobody is preventing you from getting yourself a shiny new GS8; the good news is that the door is always open for you and you could come back if & when KEYone (or better by that time!) is finally available.

Bottom line, staying on board and complaining will not help. The surgery is the surgery.

    Happy weekend my friends!

IMO, anyone who jumps ship just because of a few weeks' delay...probably was going to do so anyway.

My Classic is fine. I've loved/hated it (grrr being on T-Mo without band 12!) for almost two years. I can love/hate it for a few more weeks.

Of course it would've been nice to know about the May release four months ago. I might've even tried a Priv--they were so cheap around that time. Now with just weeks to go, it'd be kinda silly to spend ~$2-300 on a Priv just for curiosity's sake and only use it a month or so. But oh well. You can't always get what you want.

Also OP, your surgery stuff is just nonsense. The surgery is over. Blackberry isn't making phones, they are a software company well beyond phones. If the phone software goes away they will still be around. The "this takes time" stuff is over and done with.

I'm going to wait for the KEYone also. Frankly, if the biggest concern in someone's life is waiting to buy a cellphone, then they are very fortunate. I know that I am not phoneless, and even if I would lose my Passport, there are simple solutions at hand.

The OP's post went a little long, but thanks for your ideas.

Really the virtual keyboard is not available for non-blackberry devices? That's definitely a deal breaker for me. I might be able to survive without a BlackBerry branded phone but not without my BlackBerry Suite. I am considering a G8 but I will still be purchasing my Keyone only because it's the last "made by BlackBerry" device. I own and love my Priv and still have my Passport. But I am thinking about possibly moving on even though I don't really want to.

Not too long for me. 😀

My attitude, when the device comes, it comes. And, being in Australia, it'll probably come later rather than sooner.

Re the agitators, I unsubscribe from lotsa threads, can't be bothered with them being bothered.

I just can't believe people are this upset about waiting for the phone, if they haven't paid for it yet.

Now, if TCL had taken payments, then I could understand people being upset.

No, the VKB is not available for none BB devices, at least not officially and so as Productivity Tab. To my knowledge that's all for now but it seem like a developing strategy by BB and if I am right it may very well continue.

The VKB can be had on non-BlackBerry Android devices, via Cobalt. I have it on my Samsung Galaxy J3 6v, which is my KEYone placeholder on Big Red. Oddly, I get no click sound and only a vibrate one.

I remain patient, and suspect that extra time is being set finalizing agreements with NA carriers. At least I'd like to think that way.

True, Cobalt has the VKB but it's not an official version and who knows how long it will last.

But here's the thing, once upon a time of my IBM had PC's for purchase run I g Microsoft Windows. Yet Ms win runs on a slew of different devices manufactured by any other companies but IBM. I think is this type of model just works and even in the future if let's say Samsung makes a device running Android with BB's security stack, it the right steps In evolution.
