Did you slide out the keyboard and ask her for her number, so you could show her how awesome typing on a PKB can be!
Under normal circumstances I would have done just that but I already had it for work. You must have also missed my next post in this thread where I mentioned that much to my chagrin hot girl from accounting was officially spoken for literally several hours later that night. When I looked for my FB status where I said "it's a super dope day" to recollect some details about this encounter and noticed the status was dated February 14. A couple weeks later she came in with the diamond. She said he asked at dinner that night and only got the ring that day she broke the news. I'm the end of her accounting line so after she finishes whatever she does to the numbers she has to bring her stuff to me, so at least once a day she comes to see me and we talk, so I knew she had a boyfriend beforehand but she still flirts with me to a certain degree. She still flirts with me whenever she comes to see me, ring or not.

Calling people jerks just because BlackBerry has made themselves ashamed of BB10 OS? I think they do because they are using Android now.

Since he knew about sideloading apps, he should somehow have tried BB10 before. And yeah, it is not the best OS out there, at least not for now. Otherwise, it will still be developed.
No, that's calling someone who was rude to a BlackBerry user a jerk. The person could have been cordial, instead of being rude. In work situations, staff should do their job without displaying unfriendly attitudes.

I totally agree with that, and I'd never treat a customer that way.

BUT... some folks here (not directed at you, Denise) do need to understand that BB has burned a LOT of people over the years with poor execution and broken promises. Many people bought devices based on those promises that didn't deliver, and those people still have a bitter taste in their mouth over it. And the most important thing to remember is that BB did that on their own, by making a long series of poor and short-sighted decisions.

Of course people here are still fans of the company, and that's fine. But no one should be surprised that there are people in the world - many who are former BB users - who feel betrayed by the brand and have some strong feelings about that. The way to fix that isn't to get upset about it, but rather to NICELY educate them despite their bile. By having an understanding but positive attitude, you may cause at least some of these people to reconsider their opinion of "modern BB."

I think it's easier to apologise for other peoples ignorance on their behalf. So I would have said I'm sorry he didn't know Blackberry was still going and producing android OS phones.

Maybe I've been in Canada too long?

I think phones have become a status symbol. Let's be honest...Most people do not test the limits of their devices. All this high end processors, chipsets etc. The average person doesnt need it. But moreso, what comes with it. The status. I'm 28 and let me tell you, most people within 5 years of my age up or down, moreso the younger . View the phone moreso as an accessory like one would shoes, watch, handbag. And Blackberry has lost its place in that realm. So you get ppl who snark because it's like a guy showing up to hoop in Rawlings while everyone else in in Nikes and Jordans. Doesn't mean the Rawlings (not saying blackberry is Rawlings ha) are severely sub par or crap...No. But in the realm or sphere of fashion , most definitely. Same goes for BB sadly atm

The only place I have heard of these real-life phone dust-ups is here on CB. Be it outside the club when people threaten to beat up BB-carrying partners AND their girlfriends or with family who won't speak to us because of our device choice or retail managers who escorting us out of stores because we re-arrange displays to highlight BB product -- we always seem to find folks willing to "go there."

And the requisite fan fiction that holds the shadowy entities are responsible for BB's downfall? Pure gold, just as they were in 2010.

The guy was seriously unprofessional besides being unqualified for his job. If he had done any research in his field of work, which involves cell phones, he would have read up on various cell phones and would have known about BlackBerry android phones. The status symbol mentality should not accompany a person on a service call. Unprofessional.

I'm outside the range you address. I don't think BlackBerry is in the fashion/accessory race, but you may be right about many people in that range.

I don't think the appearance of the K1 is a disqualified: it looks good.

If K1 gets traction it will because it works well as a secure productivity device, has a good camera, and does the incidentals as well as others.

If it is seen by people doing these things it may be much better received than many believe.

Harsh. I wouldn't expect a cable installer to memorize the list of Android OEMs, especially if I know what can be installed on it.

Why on earth would this fellow want my phone to install apps on it? It doesn't generally work that way.

The regular guy on the street may not know, but don't you think that someone who works in the field he works in would at least follow cell phone news enough to know something? Or if he didn't know, not be so self- certain and dismissive.

I expect my work contacts to be respectful, just as I am expected to be. If I had been treated rudely by someone, similar to the OP, I would ask that person, "Please tell me your manager's name."

The reason people are being jerks in work settings is because their manager has no idea that it is happening that way.

I'll never understand peoples need for strangers acceptance? I've use Blackberry as my primary device because I liked how the phone feels and functions. I've had Samsung S4 and S5 and an Apple 3GS as secondary phones, mostly dictated by an employer, They're fine too, If that's what you like. I agree that BB screwed the pooch by not aggressively advertising their products and modifying technology and software when required. And it looks like they're attempting to right the ship. Personally I think the Passport is great device (except for the current signal issue that I'm having) But it's still a great device! And if BB decided to issue a Passport 2 with Android I'd buy it! If you're shy about your BB device and try to gain acceptance by saying "But it runs android apps" Then maybe you shouldn't own one. (Just Kidding).

That is not what the OP was talking about.

When he is at work, someone was doing IT work and had to install apps on worker's phones, and that tech guy was rude about the OP having a BlackBerry. Its not about wanting approval from strangers.

The simple answer is that, for a lot of people, the first executive they ever resented carried a Blackberry, and they need to feel that they are ismarter and more sophisticated than that person was.

OP, if what he said about a SMARTPHONE so deeply insulted you that you had "steam coming from your eyes," it doesn't sound like he's the one with the problem. Maybe don't take it so personally. Besides, it's not his fault that BB hasn't done an adequate job of letting people know about their products.

Even so, it does not entitle those people to be rude in the workplace. They should treat everyone with respect, even us BlackBerry users.

Once they are off work, then they can be rude AF and we just have to deal.

I think you can find the answer to the OP's original question somewhere in the vicinity of My dog's bigger than your dog."

It's GOTTA be the puppy chow.

By the way, How's that steam working out for you??

THE DEFINITION OF JERK ( as defined in the Websters dictionary)
An annoyingly stupid or foolish person
A Person who is cruel, rude, or small-minded.

Humm, maybe it's not the puppy chow after all.

Well, at least you now all have more choices. (Hey! I contribute what i can!)

I have always thought about this. BlackBerrys legacy in enterprise was always that only the important enough people would be issued one. When it was just an enterprise phenomenon. In fact if you listen to or read losing the signal, blackberry marketed based on this. The self important perception of executive types. They were the target market.

So inevitably some people will always view blackberrys as something their jerk bosses lorded over others.

I've been using my Classic since last week since my Priv is on the outs. Tonight I'm at AJ Brooks book signing at Barnes and Noble and I hand her assistant the phone and she says to me in a snobby way "really, a BlackBerry?" I say it works perfectly fine.
