Does anyone know what sort of time frame there is for the oreo update? I'm with Rogers in Alberta and have received nothing yet. I know others across the country have already received Oreo. Rogers can tell me nothing. They apparently started updates on August 13th. Could it be a month, two, three or ????

You'll just have to wait for the NA unlocked version you have. Only the one sold through Rogers has it at the moment.

so is one model better than the other?

Is that an involved or risky procedure?

I haven't found it to be.

However, I would suggest using the Mobile Upgrade Tool when upgrading a full OS level. That's what I did and have been very happy with it.

FYI, make a backup because it requires a device wipe.

Before you ask search for Mobile Upgrade Tool for the application and instructions.

To answer this questions: No. Same specs, same everything. It's just the Rogers one is sold specifically through Rogers. While your first K1 is a carrier device, your current K1 is a factory unlocked device. That's the only difference.
