Hey guys I was just wondering does a 'mid-range android phone' definitely mean the specs will be below the the priv?
Or is it just a way of saying, the cost is mid range?

Mid range generally mean price an build , however I believe BlackBerry couple produce an all touch device like the Priv, for around 500 by simply not adding the keyboard . The keyboard alone is worth a couple hundred
Below Priv? Hell yeah! Think curve Vs bold. Mid range is curve, Priv is bold.

Ah damn, what kind of specs are considered mid range?
A Mid Range phone basically means a phone with normal (Not Low) specs. Such as Galaxy A9
Or a phone with Ram 1-1.5 GB. Will cost around $400 or less. And yes it will be lower than the Priv.
Compared to the Priv:
PPI density low
Battery life low
Processor slow
Display not as good.
All of these don't mean the phone is going to bad. It means it's good! But not as good as a $700 phone. Some of the low specs are not noticeable. Hope this answers your question.

Lower specs, lower price (but not too low, this is BlackBerry).
"They" would do a good job keeping the Priv's specs, maintaining good build quality and eliminating both the keyboard, the edges and proposing a FHD screen. Imho, that will put "them" in a position to offer it for around 399 at launch, that's a mid-price for a phone that when will come out will be considered with mid-to-high-specs: competitive and appealing.

i hope BB doesn't go too low on the specs and they don't put a poor camera (front and back). this is probably their last chance at surviving
The definition of mid range phone has been changed with release of Mi5 or one plus 2.
If this is for fall release, it will be basically the PRIV with a 1080P display.
I just hope, they don't mean specs lower than that of the Priv and then call it mid range.
In today's parlance the specs of the Priv are pretty much "mid range". Even a us $ 300 Android phone has better specs than the Priv. So hopefully they get it right this time, inline with the real world..,, Because Marshmallow is pretty much strong when compared to the Priv's definition of security. What else does bb have to offer? Because, I dont run any military security agency anyway.

Mid-range means its Not the device I was hoping for .
1. The PRIV was overpriced to begin with not overly strong on specifications.
2. So Take the PRIV, remove the PKB and slider mechanism, maybe change the screen
There you have a profitable all touch PRIV for about $400
Mid range android phones are usually trash. I'd hate to see the follow up to the BlackBerry Classic released with mediocre specs, AGAIN.
Good luck to BlackBerry
I don't know...
I bought a Blu Studio Selfie on Amazon for $69. Sure the back cover didn't snap on perfectly (although it did come with a free tpu case and screen protector), but the dual-sim, quad-core, sd-card supporting, decent screen device seemed to be more than adequate for the lady I bought it for (who lives in Latin America).
BlackBerry probably thinks they can push out something similar, with the BlackBerry logo on it, and charge $400.
Lol

Mid-range refers to devices that run the OS well without lag and doesn't compromise on essential functions. They are generally don't have all the 'bells and whistles' (ex. wireless charging) that the high-end devices do, but they provide enough functionality that average user will be satisfied.
I'm looking forward to the Vienna because it checks all the boxes that I want (non-sliding Qwerty, reasonable screen size, decent internal specifications, and a style that would I would be proud to show people that might prompt them to hop on the BlackBerry train). The only way that I would be happier with a BlackBerry OS10 device is if the ART was implemented in a way that allowed Android applications to function the same ways they would on an Android device (maps, location, etc.)
Looking forward to see what BB means with mid-range with regards to specs. Would love to get my hands on a new blackberry with android without the huge price point that the priv got.
Processor, Ram and battery - these are the main three factors in android paradigm. What could be the expectations in these fields?
Pretty much whatever you think it will be, it will be worse than that. I'm sure Blackberry will screw this up as well.
cost is not as high as flagships, and normally have not top of the line components. maybe they have a SD 600 series instead of the 800 series, LCD screen instead of OLED, medium performing cameras, cheaper build quality with less expensive materials (although phones like One Plus X are pretty well built).
Examples: HTC A9, One Plus X, Asus Zenphone, Galaxy A5, Huawei Ascend P8,
In layman terms mid range phones are targeted towards attracting the masses by way affordable pricing , some value specs , like a powerful front cam designed for capturing sharp selfies which can be attraction to many buyers .
Won't the Priv be mid-range by the time they launch the new phones?
RedBerry Passport /10.3.2.2876 / Telus
Probably already is mid-range. Hopefully the new phones will have at a minimum a Snapdragon 625 SoC, 820 lite would be better. Better cameras and speakers than the Priv would be welcome.
They tried high end..and sold around 600k Priv I think so I guess a mid range phone is more profitable if you sell 600 K devices again.

No, they sold 600,000 devices. That includes the Priv, and older phones, as well. So, significantly less than 600,000 Privs.
