One person already said if he doesn't sell it within a week he will donate. People donate cars to charities all the time. Why not phones?

As for the charity, it has a low budget and needs to keep a volunteer on line. I don't think it's bizarre. But will let you know how it plays out.

When someone donates a car does the charity get upset when someone donates a Ford Escort instead of a BMW 5 series?

As a charity with a low budget you would think they would be happy with any device donated...bizarre

When cars are donated, they are sold. the device is for a volunteer to use to answer a hotline for 5 hours a day and to professionally respond to dozens of emails each day. A reliable keyboard phone is needed. Personally I use a Priv. With thousands of contacts and multiple calendars to synch the Priv is not stable. I think it is a good call.

(Besides, I would hardly compare any device running Android to a BMW.)

Alrighty then....I was just trying determine why an organization that is on a budget would be so picky with respect to a certain device.

Any public usage of the charity's name must be approved the board of directors. This was an initiative of the executive director. Thus it cannot be posted here but can be shared as needed.

Isn't asking for a donation something that is worth mentioning the name of the charity?

If I was donating money I'm sure I would get the name of the charity, so why not when they are asking for a phone to be used? Seems strange.

It’s suspicious until you share the name publicly. I’m sure you’re able to share with people that are donating. I’d be willing to bet, you shared the name first and they agreed to donate.

See above. Already answered. The large number of contacts and accounts overload lesser phones (like the Priv). BB10 phones are not being supported by BlackBerry anymore and are becoming more and more obsolete for people who need to remain in contact on other people's terms. Even I had to ditch the. BB10 that I loved for a Priv that I hate.

Yes. For any large campaign we would get approval from the board. For an ad that ran for a few days to get a single phone donated not so much. Of all details were disclosed to and potential private donor who requested the information.

Yes, a CRA compliant receipt will be issued for Gift in Kind.

But as I said above I believe we have a donor. We should be removing the ad over the next few days.

Happy for you. If yours is legit, you can contact Corp instead before fy end... the timing is a bit of odd for your request as well as method IMHO.

Yes method was odd. timing was just as the need arose.

You can approach whoever MFG for the year end donation as proper gift that can be write off as business expanses. If they have any inventory left and/or your org goal is in line with their Corp believe. Usually they would do so to improve Corp image, write off inventory, (improve their year end book), and get tax benefits. But you have to fully disclose your org in details. No body want to be remotely associated with any fishy no names. (be ready for legal audit as well).
