    So I'm new to Android the lack of this behaviour by default is really frustrating. I use this all day long. Does anyone have a workaround for this? I play music off of local files.

    Download the poweramp music player and then the app pocket skip track. You will soon learn android is all about choice. Don't like the stock music app? Well you can download many others.

    Downloading two apps for a stock feature isn't what I'd call "choice", especially not when you have to pay for them.
