I have the unlimited VERIZON plan and was told I could travel to Canada without any additional talk, text and data fees because these are included in the unlimited plan.

2 hours after crossing border I've already accumulated $50 of data charges.

I called VERIZON and they said that the CDMA Keyone is not provisioned for VERIZON, therefore they cannot add the "travel pack" feature which would allow me to use the phone in CANADA without any additional charges.
I asked them if they were willing to allow me to use my phone for the next 2 weeks and waive the international charges I accumulate but they refused, telling me that they could waive the fees I accumulated up to this point, but going forward I would be responsible for the international fees.

    Has anyone else experienced this?

Is this an issue on the manufacturers side or VERIZON?

While I don't know the answer, I suspect that it is a Verizon limitation. They are always to consumer friendly - NOT!

May I ask what you did? Just moved the sim card from another phone to the Keyone? I don't recall their steps for assigning a new phone to a number/sim?

I specifically bought the phone for VERIZON, went to a store and had them port my ATT account to VERIZON. I am new to VERIZON so they gave me a new sim card.

Go into your Verizon acct online and see what phone shows up.

I would love to see this thread moved to the Main KeyOne thread so that it gets more exposure. I think Verizon folks need to know this could happen to them.

I'm still on an older plan with UNlimited data but only 300 minutes and NO text allowance. I only hit Canada about once a year or so even though it is only 2.5 hour north.

I guess you could threaten to move back to AT&T and see if that persuades them to see what they can do.

    Good luck.

Already tried that. They sent me to a tech guy who tried to work out a way to add the travel pack but no luck. They basically told me that I should consider getting a "pay as you go" phone while in Canada and have my phone calls forwarded to that number.

Right now Verizon does not allow *ANY* International Travel Plans other than "Pay as You Go" for the KeyOne. I was told today my device is "not in the database" so -- although it can be provisioned in the U.S. -- they can't add TravelPass or an other International Travel feature to it. A manager ("Derek") said this is a "Corporate" issue and customer Service could not help me. I filed a complaint with the FCC today.

Well, I guess that means folks would have to use a foreign sim card when traveling outside of the US. This might be cheaper for those going to Europe but not advantageous to those going to Canada (and Mexico????). But that also means you wind up with a foreign phone number or numbers making it harder for others to reach you.

Maybe if Verizon realizes that they might be losing money if folks opt for foreign sims they might change their mind. But maybe not enough folks are bringing in outside devices to matter to them.

I do think it is near to bait and switch but probably just short of the line.

They will come around eventually. My Verizon rep says many of his customers (mostly finance and law types) have asked about the KeyOne. "Corporate" will get the message. It's really a question of how long a wait it will be.
