For whatever reason, they don't seem to have them (bad planning, late realization of manufacturing quality issues, etc???)

Bla1ze,
Does it not strike you as strange that BlackBerry Mobile really couldn't have forcasted what is going on literally week to week?
May 30th the phone launches with an unlocked Canadian version for "June" a few weeks into June were still saying June on BlackBerry Mobile twitter.
Now today they mentioned the additional delay which I guess is a decent problem to have but it's annoying to the BlackBerry loyal clients to not know what's going on and have stories change regularly. Strange that things change so much so quickly literally week to week

Even though some folks will call it spin or BS or whatever, it's pretty clear BlackBerry Mobile underestimated demand, even at their probably pretty modest expectations. This is their first go at a BlackBerry-branded device in a market that's much untested for BlackBerry Mobile specifically. They could have went all out and built wayyyyy too many or they could have stuck to their modest expectations and ran into the issue we're seeing.
Either way, I don't think folks will be waiting THAT MUCH longer than the June timeframe for unlocked devices in Canada. As I noted on the post, they've already got a good handle on the current stock levels. Them putting the announcement of the slight delay out there, in my opinion, was getting ahead of the folks who would be complaining come July 1st. Is it ideal? Not at all. Does it make for a perfect headline? Not at all. But it's better than saying nothing and NOT keeping folks up to date.
People always say they want to know more about what's going on but then some complain even more when they're told. Can't have it both ways lol.Nathan Conley and Sigewif like this.06-27-17 05:27 PMLike 2 - Not really but that's only because we have zero numbers on what they're working with anyway. We dunno how many were sold, produced, put into channel, bought and returned or how many even TELUS customer demand needed to be made up for. No one but BlackBerry Mobile does and even then, they're not getting the numbers based on real time status information either. Even though some folks will call it spin or BS or whatever, it's pretty clear BlackBerry Mobile underestimated demand, even at their proably pretty modest expectations.
Well I am sure glad that this phone appears to be selling well. Hopefully the momentum keeps up and the partnership with CB continues. Great content and work in the last few months.
I look forward to other BlackBerry Mobile devices coming in the near future, preferably a pkb BlackBerry that will work on Freedoms LTE network!
Thanks for your insights as always

And I’m not looking for it both ways. I fully understand TCL hedging their bets in terms of production estimates and avoiding some massive PlayBook-type inventory write-down because they misread the market demand. But at the same time, when things were unfolding late May/early June, how did they not already know they wouldn’t have the inventory to make factory unlocked models available in Canada end June (and/or would decide the BB love in Canada was still big enough that they could afford to let the market wait a little longer... again (twice)).
So my gripe is very much about the poor communications approach. Surely they knew more than a few days ago that the would not have direct unlocked phones available here in June, but they waited until just a few days before to announce it and in doing so, continue to string those wanting a factory unlocked phone along. Even now, no concrete commitment, just ‘later this summer’. I hope you're right that its not much longer...
I guess its my fault for having aspirations that BB Mobile could do better. Their first at bat has shown otherwise... caveat emptor.
(ps- with few other options [for my liking], I’ll still be waiting and buying mine as soon as I can)06-27-17 06:37 PMLike 0 - They may be facing unexpected demand, or they may be having to produce more warranty replacements than expected.
Or it may be they have an interruption in production as they improve the adhesive.
Or I suppose some combination of all 3 is possible.kbz1960 and Nathan Conley like this.06-27-17 07:05 PMLike 2 -
- Yep, likely some combination of all 3. Having been so forthcoming about the screen issue (which in reality seems to be fairly limited in scale), I just wish they had been more forthcoming (i.e. sooner and with more than just 'we couldn't keep up with demand') on the communication front about availability.Nathan Conley likes this.06-27-17 08:50 PMLike 1
