So before I got this phone I saw alot of reviews (probably all the reviews) alot of them said the screen was dim and some said the screen was bright and crisp.

I took a look for myself and there was a stark difference between videos but I tossed it off as lighting that they use for the videos that made the big difference.

    Example

Vs Floss Review Where the screen is dimmer

Then I got the device and mine is extremely dim...it's supposed to be brighter then the iPhone 7 and it's not even close. I have turned the adaptive lighting on and off but there's no difference and have some people in the forms saying that the screen is dim and some saying it's bright.

Going to exchange mine and try another one but when I went to the Rogers store their demo was extremely dim as well in fact it was a dimmer then my keyone.

Now I'm starting to think it depends on the keyone and all the devices are not the same

So my question is does anyone else have these issues??

    Thanks

The test that scored it saying it is brighter then the iPhone 7 says you have to have adaptive brightness turned on to achieve maximum brightness. Actually the same thing using the iPhone.

Adaptive brightness or not. I know where he is coming from, mine has that dim (low contrast) visual feel as well.

It could be just the sensor, or poor programming for transitioning. But the screen's "quality" is no where near the hype level i read here when first powered on and used it. But it also depends what phones you are coming from.

Hi, I'm coming from the S8 Plus but there is no way I expected the screen to even remotely come close to the S8 but when I got home and compared it to my Blackberry Passport, and iPhone the dim screen just didn't make any sence.

At first I thought it was just the phone that was just dim but then I started doing some research on the display/ nits/ rewatched the review videos and looked at the comments and seems some people have a bight display and some have a darker one.

Intersting, maybe it is a bad unit, maybe there are a bunch of bad ones. I compare mine to a Pixel XL and iPhone 7 Plus. Those two phones have a nicer display for sure, but I have no issues with brightness on my unit.

I couldn't imagine it being brighter, I have adaptive brightness on and I'm sitting usually at less than 50% brightness.

Hey there I heard that too but when I got my device there is zero brightness issues and intact it's totally bright even set half way!

Hmm.. i'm coming from the Galaxy S5 and the screens, albeit very different in terms of brightness, temperature, saturation, etc. I have no problems with the KEYone screen. I know on the dimmest setting is not that dim, but i downloaded "night screen" from the app store to make it as dim as i want and even apply a blue-light filter if i want to.

    Night Screen
    https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...apdt.blackblub

it even integrates into your drop down panel for easy access

not sure how to make it brighter however, since that could mess up the screen if it goes past factory set max... however, i don't have any trouble seeing the screen in bright sunlight

I'm coming from the PRIV and I have to put the screen at max brightness to get the similar effect I get from 3/4 brightness on the PRIV. It's bright enough at this setting for me but definitely nothing like my other phones at max brightness. Wonder if its just a software issue that they can change?

i'm really hoping it's just a software problem because I really want Blackberry to succeed here to bring on a keytwo/ keythree etc but if a lot of other people who aren't blackberry diehards have issues with the brightness they might not give the phone a second chance. That's why I'm just curious to see if anyone else is having similar issues

Very very strange! I have completely the opposite experience!
Might be possible that some units are built different than others ? Or may be is a software issue ? I am on AAK879.

I would send an email to TCL support and see officially what they say.

If anything, a "retail mode" would be brighter rather than dimmer, since those units are always connected to chargers. If the retail unit is dim it suggests a manufacturing defect either in the display or in the sensor that governs brightness. Obviously it wouldn't be a software issue that was causing some displays to be fine and others not. Two phones with the same OS build exhibiting different display brightness behavior would indicate the hardware is to blame.

I haven't had any brightness issues. But I will say that I notice a big difference coming from the priv. It's hard to describe but black almost doesn't seem black. Almost a hint of dark purple in there. I tried adjusting the warm/cool settings but that didn't change much. I'm assuming it's an AMOLED vs. LCD thing.

You're right it is a amoled vs LCD thing

    https://www.pornhub.com/view_video.p...h592dd0ab684b8

Gsmareana details the differences between the priv and the keyone. The blacks etc is supposed to be pretty decent on the keyone's LCD but the Priv is going to win out in that area

According to GSMarena only by having adaptive brightness om will you hit that max brightness. That will only occur in harsh, bright light eg outside.

Adaptive brightness on the keyone can hit 670 nits compared to the iphone 7's 656 nits

While on normal brightness the iPhone 7 is brighter at 561 nits compared to the KEYone's 467

If you have an iPhone 7 take it outside and compare? Is the device not readable inside and outside? Esp if you can't outdoors then that would be a pain point for me.

At least from what I've read the KEYone should be legible outside

Could be variance in the units. Mine is actually super bright and very contrasty. I was afraid it wouldn't be -- and it isn't as nice as my PRIV. But it isn't bad at all for an LCD display.

I was an owner in Germany of the K1 since 20 May. I gave it back, because of the dim Screen (in my opinion). The Classic is much brighter. I stay with my classic.

True! At 900 nits not many current smartphones are going to hit that type of brightness and if that's a concern, fair call.

I'm currently using my Classic and I love that it's easy to use outdoors due to the display but it won't get the same amount of battery life as you would with the KEYone.

In saying that, I don't believe I've read anything about the KEYone being unsuitable to use outdoors due to brightness issues.

I have it about 10 percent on the slider and it's perfect. Rarely slide it past 50. Only tiny issue is that I have the V and B button slightly less bright on the keyboard. Guessing many units have this though.

The seemingly dimmer lit V and B keys are a consequence of the location of the LED(s) under the keyboard.
