Sometimes, when I tap the Hub I get this defective screen: account removed, remove thsi widget. When I close this box down and retap the Hub, it opens properly w all my emails, etc.
I don't know how to swipe and icon. So, no, it's tapping. And it's not all the time. But frequently, daily.
Are you quite sure you're not accidentally swiping sometimes?
Why not try swiping a couple of time and see if you can reproduce your issue consistently? Just place your finger on the icon and then move your finger up slightly before letting go.

Yes, the problems occurs w a swipe. Thanks. Will have to learn to be more pointed w my taps!
What are pop up widgets and why would I be using them?
Do you know what a "regular" widget is?
A pop-up widget basically allows you to save space on the launcher by only showing a widget when you swipe up on the relevant icon. I think they generally open a bit faster than the actual app.
As an example, you might sometimes find opening the pop-up widget of the Calendar (by swiping up on the calendar icon) to be nicer than opening the full calendar App. Of course you could just have the calendar widget visible on the launcher at all times, but that does take up a lot of space.
The issue in your case is that you never setup the hub widget, so it doesn't work properly.
Ok, so how do you open Blackberry launcher settings and what is the blackberry launcher?
The BlackBerry Launcher is the page where you put your App icons.
I think you access the settings by long pressing anywhere on the launcher and then choosing Settings.
