I tripped across an upcoming build for the Chinese KEYᵒⁿᵉ (BBF100-4).

I don't know much more than that.

    Interesting...

Fingers crossed for -039 and my BE KeyOne. Perhaps BlackBerry Mo is listening and abiding to the 3 years of security. 🤞

Likely won't. As noted many a time here, device isnt under BB Mobile control as its technically a BlackBerry Murah device and they control and approve all software updates for it.

Update: Both ABY391 and ABX921 are new June builds, but remain on April patch level.

Autoloader for ABY391 is up in another thread.

This is further evidence that BBMo isn't paying BlackBerry for any patch level beyond April. It seems like they are sticking to the 2 years.

Didn't AT&T roll out the May 2019 update for the Keyone?

    Sort of.

It's actually an Aug 2018 OS build with hotfix security patches slapped on.

Whereas these are June 2019 builds that include security patches up to April 2019.

So who is doing and why are the June updates showing up? #confused

Perhaps it is a small fix for something in those regions.

Well. If there really won't be any security patches for the KeyOne BE, the promise of two years of secuerity patches is evidently broken as well even if only for a few months

Clock starts ticking at launch - colour variations (and even minor ram variations) don't count.

Between ABY391 and ABT975 the only difference I can see that is definitely new (i.e. not potentially an artifact of rebuilding the OS) is that it ships with the new dud version of BlackBerry keyboard. I'm not 100% sure but that might mean the downgrade trick wouldn't work on any builds where that's the case.

So what about those of us with unlocked NA devices who are still stuck on the Feb patch? Why aren't these being supported with more current updates right now?

Presumably the "how long do we have to care" clock has stopped in Huizhou and unlocked missed the cutoff.

No idea, but solve the problem yourself in 5 minutes by running the no-wipe autoloader.

Says who? If I buy a device at the time it becomes commercially available and it is supposed to get two years of security patches, I expect this timeframe to start running at launch. Period. Otherwise I would expect a clarification.

That's very nice, but that's not how the industry works for the most part.

before I buy the product I would confirm that I get 2yrs from when I buy it (like a tv) not from when the manufacturer makes it available. I would not believe for one minute a sales person would tell me , please be aware that it's been out 6 months and that you only have 18 months security updates left, that's not right at all

A salesperson is not likely to know.

Don't confuse warranty from date of purchase to updates from date of launch.

You're choosing to purchase a product at mid-cycle.

that's a fine line though eh? a salesperson selling me a phone should know. I am not confusing the two, warranty for a device is indeed separate. but to knowingly sell a product without being transparent and telling the customer, how can I make an informed decision? buying a phone nowadays is fraught with irritation as technology moves on so quick I guess.

Well, many OEMs don't have a stated update policy.

Worse, you can still buy many phones, new, that are already EOL.
