After watching videos on youtube they seem similar...but bizarrely the productivity hub is built in (and can be moved to the left similar to bb10) where as bbhub is an app...

What's the difference? Are they not the same?

Let me if can clarify.

Productivity HUB is "side bar" which you can customize and locate on the left or right side of screen. Its like a kind of peek function of the HUB but adding quick access to Calendar, Mail, Tasks and Contacts. One way for example to see quickly whats on your agenda today with tasks.

HUB widget obtained from launcher settings some people have opened it and placed it on the left home scree. This gives a very close situation like swiping to the left and seeing all HUB notifications.
