16:9 videos would not fill the screen by default since the K1 has a 3:2 screen, but as long as you can pinch to zoom you should be able to use the full screen height.

And miss out on like 15% of the video? That's just as bad as before there were widescreen tv's people bought movies in "fullscreen" format... I could never understand why anyone would prefer that...

One reason is that on a small screen device you'll get a larger view of the main focus of the camera. It all depends on what you like to watch.

Then there's the people who like to stretch and distort a 4:3 image to fit a 16:9 screen.

*barf* God I hate that. If I'm at a friend's house and they do that, I straight up tell them that I can't watch it, and just do something else, lol.

What's worse is that they don't even notice.

3:2 and 16:9 aren't that much apart in landscape right? There will be some black bars, but not to the extent of the Passport and Classic.

I get so annoyed at distortion. That's why I got worried when some of the renders showed a curved screen, but fortunately the functional part of the screen itself is flat. Otherwise you wouldn't see me as eager to have the phone, lol.

Oh god yes. It doesn't happen as often now since most broadcast channels are in widescreen now, but I remember when i go to peoples houses and they have it so even the 4:3 channels get stretched al the way out to fill their widescreen tv's. I always "joke" (so hopefully they notice) about how everyone looks so fat. But yah, most of the time they don't notice. I honestly don't get it, how can you not notice all circles looking like ovals and everyone looks twice as fat as they are unless they are lying down, then they become thin and tall... smfh

That's right, but even with a square screen you can usually fill the height of the screen if you choose to crop the side edges.

Yeah, I love the 4:3 ratio in Netflix on the Passport.

If you use a media player like VLC, you should be able to use either letter-box mode, or zoom (and cut off the right and left sides) or use full screen (with some distortion). VLC is one of the top media players in Android.

I remember there was a movie director who would intentionally film conversation scenes where the characters would be on the very edges of the screen on either edge, so if you do that, you'll just hear dialog and see the background with no actors, lmao!! :-D
