I need to open playstore and select "update" to trigger it. Previously it did this spontaneously... what to do?

Check to make sure notifications are enabled within Google Play settings and you can also check to make sure Battery Optmization isn't turned on for the Google Play Store. Go to settings, apps, google play store, tap on battery. On the next screen, it will show 'Battery Optimization'.. if that is enabled, you may wish to disable it. Mine seems to be enabled by default.

It's things like this that cause people to see variations in battery life after updating their OS. BlackBerry Mobile can add/remove things from the default list within an update if they find something is killing battery life. Most folks don't think to look that deep into it when there's issues. For example: If your Hub is email is slow, there's a good chance the battery usage is being optimized.

At the same time, if they left things wide open, or people change too many of the defaults, you'll end up with terrible battery life.
