On Blackberry OS 10 there was a thirdparty app with which you could place docs on homescreen for easy and fast access!
Any idea which app or option coukd do this on Android?

Try a File Manager. I have File Explore. For docs. xls. simply open the Manager program, navigate to your folder with "documents" , long press on any file, in the bottom menu that appears, select the three ... There should be an option to create a shortcut to your home screen. For photos, again use the Manager, navigate to your "photos" folder, long press any photo, from the menu that appears, select "properties". That will give you another menu with three ... select that, one of the options is create a shortcut. Good luck
