I wonder how the new specs will effect battery life. Probably not significant but ram uses power and using 2 sims at the same time will definitely take more power.

Actually it's the processor that uses power and normally you can only use one SIM at a time.

RAM is volatile memory so when it looses power it looses it's memory meaning it requires a constant source of power to function. It doesn't use a whole lot of power but it does consume power. However 3GB of RAM isn't a very efficient use of RAM. There is no "3GB stick" of RAM, for that configuration it would require 2GB + 1GB. Theoretically a 4GB device may use less power because it may only be a 1x 4GB or if it's DDR type memory it would may be 2x 2GB for best performance.
