Out of the 150+ device variants from BBMo, only 2 are locked - KEYᵒⁿᵉ Sprint and KEYᵒⁿᵉ AT&T.
AT&T KEYone has been getting timely updates. I’m on ABM658 several days now.

In my simple opinion, factory unlocked devices getting updates faster because the OEM avoids the carrier is a fallacy. Many OEMs held updates from the factory unlocked devices until carriers were ready to push out updates to carrier locked devices. The OEMs want to keep their big customers happy, the carriers.

I also think update distribution has changed with the PRD system being used differently than in the past.

There are real advantages with buying a device from a carrier - support, advanced features, and subsidized pricing.

Everyone is pretty good with updates now.

They opened a case for me haha. I guess I'll update you guys as I go if anyone cares what they have to say.

I used to get my phones from my carrier until I switched. I went from Rogers to Freedom since they're half the price and I get all the coverage I need and unlimited data. To me Rogers doesn't provide a service worth double the money.

It's always entertaining to hear what support has to say. Lol. I've heard some real gems over the years.

They have assured me that the US CDMA K1 is up to date which is ridiculous. One just needs to look at the Android security bulletins which clearly show there are critical vulnerabilities in 7.1 over the last several months.

Well it's been days without a response. I think I'll flash it.

Is this gonna cause any issues being the update isn't specifically for the Black Edition or does that not even matter?

Also, if someone could point me in the direction of where to download the autoloader for my device that'd be great. I'd hate to brick the thing.

Use ABL693 or ABM374. You should have no problems.

What's the difference between those two? I haven't kept up with autoloaders since using BB10 haha. Sorry.

Provide more information and someone can provide more help. Things like carrier, location, device, last update and PRD number.

I went back and read conite’s reply. It appears he also listed autoloader link for you to use if you don’t wish to wait.

You can complain until the cows come home on these "official" Blackberry Mobile support forums, but ultimately no one cares. They are even promoting Joe public buy the BE Keyone at Best Buy on the Crackberry front page and make no mention that it's running a 6+ month old version of Android and that DTEK security software flags the phone as vulnerable. Good stuff.
