Again, your phone has to be UNLOCKED - which it isn't going to be in a pocket or a purse, so you'd have to have been actively using the phone AND somehow get it within range (about 1 foot) of an active, waiting-for-transaction reader. And there is a PIN requirement for transactions over a certain amount (I believe $25).

So, IMO, you're way overblowing the "risk" here.

That is not necessary true... the bank I am using for NFC payments allows NFC payment with unlocked mode also... which feature I am not using for an obvious reason...

The discussion was about Google/Android Pay, both of which require the phone to be unlocked.

If you're talking about a bank's own app, that's another issue entirely.

That's "NFC" in general - and NFC can be used for a bunch of things not related to payments - for example, to sync to a Bluetooth device. For Android/Google Pay specifically, the phone MUST be unlocked.
