When I buy my keyone I'll need to setup a Google account. I do NOT have any interest in a Gmail account.

How do I go about doing this?

You don't need Gmail to make a Google account.

Just make sure to select "I prefer to use my current email address" when setting it up.

A google account is more less a more capable "BlackBerry ID" used on legacy and BB10 devices. It doesn't have to be a Gmail address.

Is there any harm with using a professional, but personally owned, email instead? I don't want spam and bs affecting it...

I use my personal Hotmail account as a google account on my device and can't say I've ever received any spam or anything as a result of it.

Exactly. Not just Android, but also Google Drive, YouTube, Google+ (hahahahaha), etc.

Shhhh all these BIS and BB10 diehards believe Google is only evil and doesn't offer services other than spam and data stealing! Don't dare tell them the truth they won't have it!

Hmm I guess I might already have a Google account associated with a pos yahoo account I use... should I just use that or the professional email that I more frequently use.

It honestly doesn't matter. Just pick one that's easy to remember. If you get a new android device in the future you can associate that device with your existing google account. From there pretty much everything syncs over nicely. Make sure when you save new contacts you save them to your google account and not locally on the device. This makes them cloud based so you can load them to any other new android device you may choose in the future.

Hmmm so since I do have things synced with my junk yahoo address, maybe I should just use that one? I've had it for probably 15 years
