Let's hope they don't end up calling this phone the DTEK70, absolutely horrible. The Mercury is a great name, just like most BlackBerry code names (Venice was another great name). But the whole DTEK name thing has always been a bland bad choice in my opinion. What do you all think? What do you think the name could be?

When you get it, call it whatever you want.

Most people won't remember the official name anyway and will probably just call it TheNewBlackBerry.

TCL should just go with the current and call it the Mercury, as the name has taken on a life of its own and going against the grain now, will just harm the overall identity of the handset, which for once, has a solid tech public awareness.

My money is Blackberry Press. I like it better than Mercury. Mercury is sort of passe now. I used to like it but it seems tired now.

To be fair, they can't really do worse than PRIV and dtek, unless they call it pee or poo.

Happy with the design and development implementation so to be fair, I don't care about the name so much, more important to me is the price.

I actually don't mind DTEK70 - although I think that it would be more fitting if they went with DTEK65 or DTEK60T. DTEK isn't the best name, but I'd be happy with any sort of continuity, so people didn't need to be confused every time a new BlackBerry comes out.

I don't like the name DTEK70 because it implies the Mercury is a straight upgrade from the DTEK60, which it by no means isn't.

I hope it's something unique because this is the first BlackBerry in the Android space to really get consumers and the media outlets excited. Also, it's different from the DTEK 60 & 70 in the sense that it was uniquely designed.

Like I said in thee other forum, I think BlackBerry legacy would be pretty cool! It indicates a continuation of the things we like about BlackBerry, but also a new gen device

DTEK is so nerdy and awful.

Hope they abandon that so badly.

The name is something the enterprise and government customers have to be happy with. I think a dry vendor purchase order l submit a boring name like the DTEK70 will not sell enough devices to all BlackBerry markets, but I do hope for something bolder, that even consumers, particularly those who remember BlackBerry's golden days, would find enticing toward a purchase. Therefore, I submit the following name suggestions for your and BlackBerry/TCL's review:

    1. Enterprise
    2. Excelsior
    3. Mercury
    4. Visa
    5. Passport 2
    6. Bold 002
    7. Agenda
    8. Legend
    9. Exigency
    10. Finale

Unless there's a license limitation or TCL wants some distance from the brand, just use straight up "BlackBerry" . Everyone knows the name is synonymous with security. That's some serious brand identification already.

They nailed the "Passport" name. It is such a unique phone and in many ways, the Mercury will be as well.

If BlackBerry or TCL reads this

BlackBerry Newbie, BlackBerry Wiz X or even BlackBerry Tritan or BlackBerry EPIX would be a great name for such a device

It is funny how people think the name is not so good. Honestly, it is about the market reception in terms of sales, I find other names weird, think Oppo; Xiaomi; iPhone- yes, iPhone to me sounded weird the first time I heard/ saw it and it still does even today but sales tell another tale.

I bet if DTEK took off and was all over the show people would be singing a different tune altogether.

Personally I feel the name is not the important factor here, it's about pricing and being value added.

I think TCL already has a name for the device, as from my understanding they had to file trademark for the name in advice of releasing the device. The question is anyone on the forums willing to go through TCL trademark filings.

True, but at times the name is important. That's how word of mouth advertising happens (if at all it will happen)
