May be an update inclusion or it may be certain ones. I just looked and my -1 does NOT have this. However, mine isn't completely up to date yet, stuck on November build (thanks AT&T!). That said, there are many apps that can do this.

Seems only some KeyOne models get this option in the camera app.
My Limited Edition -7 KeyOne doesn't have it either.

There is also a scanner buried in BBM. You need to be in the MAIN opening screen for BBM. Tap the "ME" icon on the lower right, tap the upper left menu (3-bars), Scan a barcode. Again, I don't know if this feature is limited to only certain versions/countries or in all bbm versions.

Sad. My Unlocked -1 does. I wonder why carriers disable features like this.

I didn't have this when I first got my phone but after a couple of updates it appeared.

Usually it's because the carrier has some version they want to have you buy or subscribe to.

I don't believe AT&T does, although their version of the K1 has been missing strange features since the beginning. I remember they didn't have the "Space key to answer calls" feature while mine did. I don't know if they do now, and I highly doubt that's a feature you can pay for from AT&T.

Honestly, BlackBerry's scanner doesn't even come close to CamScanner...give it a try, the best scanning app I have ever come across. The CamScanner and Xodo combo (for pdf editing) is so convenient and above all it offers such a variety of features that I mostly don't even bother scanning documents on a scanning machine and editing pdf's on a computer...
