While it may still be a small audience, it's certainly gone beyond just those committed to BlackBerry.
Yes, it has. The public for this new BlackBerry phone is wider than close BlackBerry fans. Not huge public maybe, but not limited to fans for sure. There is curiosity at least.

So the exact second the actual name is revealed fans will get into over whether Mercury or the new name is better while the average consumer won't care anyway. They'll care about the "New" BlackBerry functions.

On the Enterprise side, companies will care about how it stacks up to old BlackBerrys and their Android and iPhones already deployed.

On the consumer side, who knows. Is any carrier discussion out there yet in the US. We knew about the Passport and AT&T, the Classic and carriers, who would get the PRIV.

People are arguing over a name. iPhone does 70 million devices. It's iPhone with a number at the end.

The only name that matters is BlackBerry. If people get past that, they'll give it a shot if they like the device. IMHO

    Don't matter, Bold was used multiple times, 9000, 9900, 9970 (?)...

It would be too confusing imo. The name "Bold" screams outdated.

Well, not saying they should use that name, just making the point that it being used before doesn't disqualify it by itself.

Hopefully there would be no confusion with the Huawei Mercury. (sarcasm)
