I know some other threads are aflame with concerns about device support. So in case anyone didn't notice this on BlackBerry Mobile's website... it specifically says security updates for a minimum of 24 months.

Yes. They don't guarantee major version upgrades. I am hoping for at least O. But regardless I was at least happy to see a solid 24 month commitment.

You can buy a new device...or keep the one you've got.

This doesn't include BBRY phone help/tech support.

If they say 24 months security updates they likely mean less than 24 months for major updates (i.e. Android O, maybe Android P).

I always wonder when does the 24 month support start? Is the start date for your own phone when you purchased it or when the phone launched?

The device launched in Canada in May of 2017 but if I buy a device in January 2018, do i get support till 2020?

Typically it's from launch date. That's why the phone gets cheaper as time goes on.

I'm still on April patch and My carrier or BBMobile have no answer on when is it coming. So I already know that this slogan is not true.

Exactly they better not claim fast security update times , so many times they missed it

    Not the only one.
From what they've advertised/promised - cut that in half.

Sorry man, let's be real. If the KeyOne got Android O I'd be very happy already. Android P is definitely beyond reach.

While this is a good statement, I cannot believe anyone would worry about this; you buy a phone because you like it. If you worried about this stuff with other things........just think. You would be worried about that new laptop/tv/fridge well you get the idea. Stop worrying about this which is nothing about nothing and just enjoy the *am Phone.

I disagree, when talking smartphones or laptops, unlike TVs or fridges. I want reliable, useful support extending over my typical use (3+ years). For a featurephone or essentially a burner, I wouldn't care but I wouldn't pay much for the phone either.

There is a chance BlackBerry will be sold by then and their device business - I mean their licensing model, will be ended completely.

Chen said at the AGM they get a % on each device sold - so I would assume if it still can't sell, then they'd still be losing money by keeping a software team around for android.

He better outsource some jobs overseas and save on that...

Economically not just RIM/Blackberry but other large companies have been facing economic challenges! Sears and HMV are good examples of Canadian companies going down!
