I ordered GSM Keyone from Best Buy because CDMA wasn't available. Now CDMA Keyone is available on Amazon and Best Buy but is sold out.

Is the Verizon network superior to the ATT one, such that I should wait until the Verizon CDMA version is available?

Would love some help on this!

    Thank you

You should use the carrier network that works best for where you'll be using the phone most. /Generally/, it doesn't matter which carrier you pick if you live in a city. For suburbs and rural areas, it'll vary quite a bit by carrier. Some carriers now have a program where you can borrow a device for a limited time to test coverage. Once you find which carrier works best for you, then pick the KEYone version you need.

Look at the carrier coverage maps where you live and plan to use the phone and see how Verizon compares against other carriers in you area.

How about using phone in Europe? My current BB Q10 from Verizon worked well when in the UK - just switching the SIM card. From what I'm reading, it seems that Data will work fine on any network. It's just phone calls that don't. Is that the case?

I ordered the GSM version even though I have Verizon. I opened up a Tmobile PP account and popped in the sim card. The data speeds on Tmobile were on avg about 12mb down and 8mb up. Then I decided to put my Verizon sim in, and it worked. I saw post that model 100-2 would work on Verizon but didn't think 100-1 would. But I'm getting LTE speeds on Verizon on avg 45mb down and 14mb up. That's a big difference. I have advance calling and mobile hotspot working also. I was surprised to see the GSM variant work so easily on Verizon.

What happens when you're not on LTE and in a suburb or rural area where coverage is via CDMA?

Honestly I couldn't tell you the last time I saw a 1X signal on Verizon. I pretty much stay between Tampa Bay, Orlando, and Jacksonville areas in FL and have consistent LTE service indoor and out.

I would imagine if there is no LTE signal it will try to look for CDMA bands which I have turned on but don't know if it works. But if I'm ever in that situation today as we are traveling I'll post findings back here.

If there is no cmda bands in your unit you just will not get a signal. Verizon is planning to shutdown CDMA in I think 3 years and they just release a lte only feature flip phone with no CDMA bans on the phone.

Starting to get ready for the shutdown.

I had a few VZW data outages (music streaming) on the 64 between West Virginia and Virgina.

The Sprint phone had streaming data. Wish I had an AT&T sim to test at the time.

As with all carriers you'll find dead areas across the country. Some will just have huge areas of no coverage especially if you are not on an interstate.

Yes - the first for me in the States with VZW.

My prepaid sim stopped working when I left the country as well.

Do American provider's support extended network coverage using other companies towers? Here in Canada Rogers Wireless has a feature called extended network coverage and is a free service! It basically extends your coverage in areas of weak signal piggy backing service using other companies cell towers so telus and bell mobility. It's kicked in a few times for me and coverage was awesome!!!

Not sure anymore. There use to be roaming agreements where you wouldn't be charged a roaming fee.

As far as I know USA cellular providers still have roaming agreements with each other, but from my understanding when you are roaming you are throated heavily.

Supposedly can visit Verizon's website and check the ID, such as the IMEI number, on your device to see if it will work unlocked on the carrier's network. I'd love to know what comes up if you submit your IMEI number!

I took my GSM phone to Verizon and they were unable to get it to work. Not sure which 100- model I had. Which one do you have? I returned my GSM Keyone for now, as i was within the time period to return it, and will wait for the CDMA version. I have another phone I can use in the meantime.

I have the Verizon model(CDMA), and the other day, I removed my Total Wireless SIM(Verizon Network-NMVO) and inserted my T-Mobile SIM(GSM) from my iphone SE, and it actually worked. I don't know if it is because of the comparable LTE bands that made the phone work, or that my Keyone has both CDMA and GSM bands built into the phone according to the Blackberry Mobile website. If someone knows if this BBB100-3 US V2 version will actually work on either Network type, or was a fluke-please email me([email address deleted by moderator])

When I first got the "Verizon" KeyOne I was still using my Priv and kept the Verizon sim card in the Priv. So I put my T-mobile sim in the KeyOne and it worked. Verizon phones including their unadopted KeyOne are capable of using GSM networks which is why the phones also work in Europe (other places, too?) without any additional sim card change.
