Is the keyboard normally unevenly back-lit like the picture here? It's not unforgivable or anything, but I am mildly OCD lol.

You can see it from the V and B up to the left to the square. I sort of expected the V and B to be not as backlit as the other keys because of the space bar.

Normal. You can return the phone and the next one will be the same. Typing is so beautiful on this phone though isn't it?

it's normal, the lower areas of V and B on mine are like that too.

part of the 0/mic button, and "sym" are like that too.

Mine is exactly as described by SK122387: Darker V, B, 0/mic, and sym buttons.

looks better than most actually! By most I mean pkb phones in general.

also checked the capacitive keys above and nope, they look solid and clean unlike that one fellow who had one with the recents key looking like it had chipped paint and folks tried to tell him it was normal lolll

Looks very similar to mine. I can accept uneven backlighting as long as our devices don't have any of the other reported issues!

Definitely not poor quality control. Looks perfectly normal and good, or even better than other venerable BB's I've owned. Enjoy it.

If you're not a TCL shill, you should be. You pop in to every thread about an issue and tell people they're wrong and to enjoy the phone.

It's standard equipment. Its really not that dim and most BBs I've owned are not perfectly even.

The only perfect one I had was on the P'9983. Bright and uniform but then it should be based on the price.

Got my K1 today (yay!). But the uneven backlighting might be a deal killer. It is so annoying. Nearly 4 years with Q10 and keyboard was just fine. So the question is: is this a build/warranty issue, or just how it is? perhaps a survey is in order?

My V, B and a couple of other letters are a little dimmer than the rest. That doesn't bother me at all. I can see those just fine in the dark.

My k1 is a little dimmer under the V amd B keys also, but the thing that bothers me the most is that it isnt white.

If you compare the backlight colour to the classic, passport, or priv, those are all the same bright white while the keyone has a yellow tinge to it.

My Keyboard is even, just like all my other berries. The Q10 has the best back-lit keyboard ive seen though.

I just fired up my Passport (what a great keyboard) and the letters are more yellow than white. My KEYᵒⁿᵉ keyboard letters are whiter than my Passport.

I just snapped this side by side, but with my Z10 so probably the worst camera I could find to demonstrate the color difference with.

Can't really see the difference, but the Priv is the whitest (almost on the blue side), the Passport and Classic are pure white, while my Keyone is yellower.

I'll take a picture comparing the Passport, Keyone and Classic after work using the Priv camera.

So there is production variations in the color and brightness of the keyboards. I think sending phones back in hopes of getting the perfect lighted keyboard is like trying to catch Unicorns.

The unicorn comment made me laugh, thanks.

However, the pictures make it clear that an even brightness is possible and, frankly, it should be. The uneven lighting is either a symptom of inferior parts (the backlight), or of inferior quality production and supervision. At this price point neither is acceptable. If we don't return the phones, we encourage the behaviour that leads to the inferiority of manufacturing. So back it goes, I think, which sucks since the wait for this one was long enough.
