So is CB's question on the main page about the Key3 supposed to be a hint?

cbk probably knows something we don't, I think that's a safe bet.

You mean like an imminent shutdown or a new device. Your thought covers a broad spectrum.

To date, there have been ZERO indications of an upcoming release, and information about new models is typically available about 6 months prior to release, as test phones are spotted, regulatory paperwork is filed, OS versions are seen in benchmark databases, etc.

Mostly, it's been rumors or outright invented stories that are read and believed by someone else and then passed on, stirring up even more people.

You can rest assured that any REAL information will be quickly added to the CB front page, so until you see it there, take any rumors with plenty of grains of salt.

Wasn't there something that surfaced a back in June about a phone with a code name "Monet" ?

Personally I think the trade war between the US and China hasn't helped at all. Today I heard that there has been a major breakthrough with the trade talks between the US and China, and a tentative agreement . This may be one of the undercurrents that has caused issues in several industries.

Yes, but that just means that they've got some test devices that they've made a development build for. Lots of development devices don't reach the market.

I agree that it hasn't helped, but in context, it's a very minor issue. The major issue is that sales of BB-branded phones have been dropping about 50% a year for 6 straight years, and look to continue that trend, and volumes are so low now that the fixed costs are very high when divided by the number of phones likely to be sold.

If BBMo was selling 1M phones a year, and the cost was $20M at the manufacturing level, or $20/phone (which will become $50-80 at the retail level), that would be doable, but when they're selling 1/10th of that volume, the cost is now $200/phone at the manufacturing level, and that's not sustainable. BBMo is already losing money on every phone.

1 million devices a year in the whole world should be a realistic and unambitious goal for a recognized mobile brand with a unique feature.

The fact that they haven't reached that figure is disappointing for a company, and in the cold light of day, decision makers in TCL must be pondering decisions that PKB lovers won't like.

Maybe TCL are thinking, "Well, at least we won't be letting down too many people."
