So... I regularly use OpenSignal to check on my cell tower connection and signal strength and it's usually about -107db which can be considered a fair to bad signal. The notification bar signal indicator would normally show 2-3 bars at best.

Well tonight I was placed on hold during a call for an extended time which allowed me to use OpenSignal and check the signal level and low and behold it was -79 which is pretty much solid bars and coincided with the signal strength reading on the notification bar across the top.

Any ideas on this revelation? I have never missed a call or experienced a dropped call since I started using the KEYᵒⁿᵉ fyi.

Some people are saying this could be software related which would be awesome because it's correctable. What you are describing sounds like a possible software issue.

It's like the connection sits latent at a lower power level when the phone is not in use but as soon as you make a call there is a boost in level.

Wouldn't it be nice if someone in BB or TCL monitored the number one forum for BB and answer simple questions like this instead of leaving many hanging?

Can we get other KEYᵒⁿᵉ owners to try this simple test and report back with their results? Start with you phone sitting idle and note the network bar level on your phone and then make a call and once again check your bars once connected to a call. Pretty please!

    Thanks in advance

This could simply be that your phone is dropping from LTE to HSPA to make the call. You can test this by changing the preferred network in settings to HSPA and see if the signal strength follows the same pattern.

Just what JAL1 said. That is exactly what is happening. My Priv does the same thing.

Yes, this is normal, no reason for your carrier to keep an LTE data connection open when there is another adequate voice connection available.
