- I find my Priv gets very slow with multiple apps open, especially the snapchat+hub + youtube. Never have issues like this on my passport.
So if they don't put the high end chip in the Mercury, will it be as slow/slower then the Priv?
Everything I've seen heard about the DTEK60 and iPhone7 seem extremely fast. Really hoping for that same user experience!

Edit: I mean 625.
But your question about the 808 in the PRIV vs the purposed 625 in the Mercury.... It depends on what you are doing and what the apps you are using. At single core use the 808 is around 300-350 points higher in score than the 625 but in multicore use the 625 is around 1,300 points higher in score than the 808. You also need to take the GPUs into consideration since the 808 (Adreno 418) is capable of around 172 GFlops where the 625 (Adreno 506) is only able to do around 130 GFlops.
Long story short: If you are looking to play video games on it then the 808 would be better. If you are looking for all around everyday use and lots of multitasking the 625 would be better (especially on power consumption). But there are other factors too... screen on the Mercury will make things a little faster. We don't know much about the types and speeds of the Memory and Storage used in either device, that could greatly affect benchmarks.
But no I don't think a PRIV owner will "think" the Mercury is slower.bluetroll and UrbanGlowCam like this.02-09-17 08:09 AMLike 2 - DTEK60 is going to be faster, the iPhone 7 even faster....

Look, I have at home:
Xiaomi Redmi Note 2. This phone rocks with 5.5' 1080 x 1920 pixels (~403 ppi pixel density), Mediatek MT6795 Helio X10 chipset (which has Octa-core 2.0 GHz Cortex-A53 CPU and PowerVR G6200).
Xiaomi Redmi Note 3. This one is 5.5' 1080x1920 pixels screen (403 ppi), has Qualcomm MSM8956 Snapdragon 650 (which is Hexa-core (4x1.4 GHz Cortex-A53 & 2x1.8 GHz Cortex-A72 CPU and Adreno 510)
Mercury will have Snapdragon 625 chipset, which has Octa-core 2.0 GHz Cortex-A53 CPU and Adreno 506.
According the benchmarks:
Power VR G6200 (2 Clusters) which comes with the Mediatek MT6795 Helio X10 chipset operates at 600 mhz clock and produces 76.8 GFLOPS.
Adreno 510 which comes with Snapdragon 650 chipset operates at 600 MHz and produces ~180 GFLOPS
Adreno 506 which comes with the Snapdragon 625, operates at 650 MHz and produces ~130 GFLOPS
Now, both Xiaomis runs all the games I tried - without any hiccups. Need For Speed, etc - no issues. just works. even the note 2, which has PowerVR which produces almost HALF the performance of Adreno 506, plays the games without problems.
video is not mine, btw
I do not see issues with Mercury gaming performace whatsoever.02-09-17 08:44 AMLike 0 - I believe the gaming aspect is so exaggerated as it is even not funny.

I also think we have hit a point.... much like the PC market did, where a midgrade device meets most users needs.
That doesn't change that a phone with a MSM8998 Snapdragon 835 Octa-core (4x2.45 GHz Kryo & 4x1.9 GHz Kryo) with and Adreno 540 won't run circle around the performance you would see in any of those mid-grade chipsets you mentioned.
And the real benchmark will be some of the higher end VR experiences that are coming.... not sure does the 625 meet the requirements for Google Daydream? (not that I think finding a headset that would work with the Mercury is going to be very easy)Last edited by Dunt Dunt Dunt; 02-09-17 at 01:26 PM. 02-09-17 09:18 AMLike 0 - I sorta agree in that we have reached a point in Mobile where the differences between processors in high end devices and mid grade devices isn't all that noticeable... without benchmarking numbers. I do expect that the Mercury will "play games without problems", as most gaming developers understand where the "average" is on processing power and they don't want to limit their customer base.

you either compare mid range devices and try to guess performance, or you compare top tier devices.
625 comparison with 835 is the same as to compare some sort of mid range vw passat with some kind of bugatti veyron. obviously Veyron is faster. that's not the issue.
main question is "will 625 be slow". and the answer is "NO. IT WILL NOT BE SLOW" it will be just more or less - average device.02-09-17 06:55 PMLike 0 - I for one believe that benchmarks and the constant race for the highest end chipset is overly played.
I agree that the 625 would be more than adequate for the Mercury.
I am actually happy to hear that it is in all likelihood going to have the 625. I believe that it will performing for everything that I require my phone to while providing better battery life and keeping the price lower.02-10-17 07:17 AMLike 0 - The 625 is fine. I really don't think we need to be concerned. Will it be faster than the Priv? Well on paper the Priv has a more powerful processor but seeing as the 625 has to push less pixels and it's a newer processor built on a 14nm architecture It could perform better. Especially with battery life.
My mom has a Galaxy J5 (2016/2017) I think, with a SnapDragon 410 processor. The phone works just fine. so I think we can put this to bed and wait till we get some review units and then test performance
We all want it to be great. ^_^
Posted Via BlackBerry Q502-10-17 05:13 PMLike 0 - 625 is like between 808 and 810 but better power efficiency. If Priv is slow for you, I wouldn't recommend Mercury, get a dtek60.02-10-17 07:33 PMLike 0
- Maybe I just am not doing the right stuff but I really don't get the slow priv comments. It does everything I ask it to and does it pretty well02-10-17 08:42 PMLike 0

If it is 625, will it be as slow as Priv?
