RLee, I hope that means it's working now. You can't disable it, and whatever you do, don't let it update. I know what you mean about the long and growing list of "Do not update..."
I put on chrome and leave it enabled but dormant without updates from playstore. I use chrome beta up to date for my daily browsing. The email misery is no longer a problem.
