SO for some reason, after taking a bunch of pics today, my system (Google Photos) wouldn't show me thumbnails of the pics. When I went in and clicked on them they had a LOCK symbol.

When I clicked on that, it forced me to set up a screen lock pin for my phone. (Anyone know why?) It then let me see all the pics.

Now, for the LIFE of me I cannot figure out how to turn off this PIN requirement. I have searched high and low online to no avail.

TO be clear, I want to be able to lock my phone and then unlock by swiping up without needing to enter a pin.

If you add a fingerprint, you won't need to enter a PIN all the time.

But all of this is accessed from the same screen: settings, security.

Select "screen lock" and then select "none".

Are you using Netguard or Blockada or any other type of VPN?

Aha!

Disable your VPN, and you will be able to change your screen lock settings.

disconnected the VPN and rebooted phone. no change.

If an app has been setup to require a lock, then the option to remove it will disappear from your settings screen. You need to turn off the setting in the app - which in your case is likely Photos.

OK, but although they are both no-lock options, none and swipe are not exactly the same thing.

From Google:

None: Your phone stays unlocked. This gives no protection, but you can get to your Home screen quickly.

Swipe: Swipe your finger across your screen. This gives no protection, but you can get to your Home screen quickly.
