Just wondering at price point do BlackBerry folks walk away from buying a Mercury Phone.

I'd pay $800+ as a loyalist. But it's not us that matters for this phone to be a success and the pkb live.

Well this is CB forum so most Blackberry fan will buy this no matter what. I think it will be like $599 launch price.

    Passport launch price $599US
    Priv launch price $749US
    DTEK50 $299US
    DTEK60 $499US

I think anything over $600 is too much for it.

I've always said that I wouldn't buy it if it was over $599 shipped but who am I kidding? I'm gonna buy it no matter what lol.

I just may not be happy about it.

499 is the right price. More is TOO much.

If they price it for BlackBerry fans then they're setup to fail IMO. The price point has to line up with the reality of the market today. I think anything over $550 and the iPhone and Pixel comparisons will follow.

I'm still bothered by aesthetics and I'm not 100% on getting this but if I don't I will likely jump to the DTEK60.

Key for me will be whether they finally deliver a really good camera on a BlackBerry and then I'll learn to live with the silver hat.

Anything over C$500. Classic was C$499, this should be positioned there. C$550 is the absolute max.

But then I probably won't buy at launch, Priv far from ready to retire.

I'm actually hoping this to be released with a 399 USD price tag because getting it to as many customers as possible would do good for the company. And just to further point out that BB is still alive and kicking.

$499 USD, not a penny more if all rumors are confirmed.

499$ is already too much, given that we were promised a 400$ device. Hardware wise, the actual value of the Mercury is no more than 350$, this is why anything above 450$ will determine its failure: wasn't the PRIV enough? And what about the Classic (which costed a lot if you consider its - ancient - hardware)? One more problem for us, in Europe, is that we always pay 100€ more on a 1:1 exchange rate (which would already be a sufficient overpricing). You payed 699$ for the PRIV at launch, we were asked for 799€, that is 851$ with the current exchange rate, but two years ago they were nearer to 900$. Now, everybody understand that such decisions made no sense at all (Chen was asking the users to buy a BlackBerry which costed as much as a 32 GB iPhone or a high-end laptop). If they keep insisting on foul prices, they will face another failure. Anything above 400€/450$ is way too much, especially now, that we know the producer is TCL, who has very low costs for both hardware and software.

I feel; The Mercury should be priced to sell, plain and simple. In the past BlackBerry has misstepped in the pricing of their devices, leading to under-selling during the launch. Only to come back and discount the price a few weeks later.
It's become a known practice affecting initial sales of units, leading to bad impressions in the market as "yet another BlackBerry product that fallen short of expectations".
If it's being said to be a Mid-Range smartphone, it should be suitably priced. Simply because there are other "branded" manufacturers devices (Actel, OnePlus, Xiaomi, ZTE, etc..), that are competing for the same "Android" customers with Mid-ranged priced phones featuring high end specs. Price it to compete.

I would love to see a 400 pricetag, but 500 would be ok. I would buy it anyway. I bought the Z10 at first availability and didn't even regret it when I saw them for half price not two months later. If they charge 700 bucks for the Mercury, I would have to wait until August because of budgetary reasons, I'm not a philanthropist. But if they come out with a pricetag between 4 and 500, I might just take the plunge immediately.

It would be a real smart move for TCL to price then competitively. And I note that pricing it competitively would be strictly in line with DTEK50 and 60 pricing. A slight bump for the keyboard and new design (where the earlier DTEK designs were already at the warehouse) is reasonable though.

My thought and hope is that it won't be any more than $499, same as DTEK60. I know the PKB adds more $$ in the hardware dept, but the DTEK60 is flagship specs, so I dunno fingers crossed.

$400 would be pushing it, given that it's iPhone SE territory (with tiny display, tiny memory etc, but still). $350 would make it a natural upgrade.

There are plenty of all-touch phones without a capacitive keyboard that will fit your bill.

Well you wanted a sub-$400 phone. Were you expecting that as a free feature?

Not free, but not $200-$300 extra just for a keyboard?
