This will be my first time buying an unlocked phone outside of the carrier (Verizon). I am used to being able to get an advanced replacement when something goes wrong, phone breaks etc. How does it all work when you buy unlocked? Is there a way to purchase Asurion outside of Verizon, or does the payment to Verizon still work in regards to your unlocked phone?

thats a good question. i dont think they would honor the phone as they wouldnt have it available to replace but idk, maybe they would just offer you a credit or something. best way to find out would be to call or chat with a rep.

no a carrier insurance won't work. u need best buy geek squad insurance or if amazon prime insurance if they offer it. I'm not aware of bbcare picking this one up or not.

when I called tmobile they said the insurance on my pre keyone iPhone was not device specific. the rep told me the protection plan I paid for monthly on my tmobile account would apply to whichever device im actively using.

so for T-Mobile, I didn't have to purchase 3rd party insurance for the keyone or update anything with tmobile as its done automatically through their system by the sim card.

Well I just shattered my Priv a couple weeks ago and they were going to send me an S5 and I told them no way. They bumped me up to S6 so I sold it too pay off my Telus account and got a Bell KeyOne on release day.

Asurion thru AT&The will insure any device you have on the account I believe Verizon is the same.
