My other Android devices were rooted with custom ROM's. Is there a non-root way to replace the text where the carrier name appears on the screen with something else...or remove it altogether?

Immersive mode would accomplish the same thing.
If you want to hide the status bar
    or Kill an App
    or customize screen swipes
    or customize hardware buttons
    or etc. etc.
Try this app recommended to me by @LinuxKnight
It accomplishes a few things that I wanted to simulate on my KeyOne.

I would say it is a must have.
    No Root necessary.
Accessibilty access and a few other permissions with explanation why they are needed.

    Enjoy.

Thanks. I would venture to say that it is a variable for displaying what is on the SIM card. Modifying that variable would not necessarily require modifying the SIM.

For example, take the Resurrection Remix ROM. All you need to do is tap:
    1) Settings
    2) Configurations
    3) Status Bar
    4) Carrier Label
You can then either Enable or Disable it or create a Custom carrier label.
(and that is just touching the tip of the iceberg as far as customizations go)

Of course, this is a custom ROM. A stock Android ROM wouldn't have that level of customization readily available, but you may be able to modify some things (like not displaying any icons in the Status bar).

So, if anyone knows of an app or something that doesn't require rooting, I'm all ears.

    Thanks again.

The Tmobile name only appears for a split second when the screen is turned on and then its gone. Not sure why, doesn't bother me. I actually prefer it not to be there.

True, I think that's because of notifications appearing starting from the left (especially persistent notfications).

    Thanks.

How can we customize the carrier name in the upper left hand corner of the screen?-nocarrierstatusbar.jpg
Sometimes it even happens by itself on the KeyOne after clearing notifications.

Mtro, I'm on T-Mo but I constantly have the name in upper left corner. It never goes away so curious what setting you may have done to get it to go away?
