Just as the title asks has the mercury received these certifications? Is it necessary before a phone is released onto market?

I'm afraid that the mercury will only go on sale roughly a month later (late march) rather than a few days-week after MWC. There aren't even any phone cases/skins on ebay either, usually those start appearing when release date is imminent.

Good question. If the Mercury is to be released within the next month, I would expect FCC and WiFi approvals very soon.

True. Typically, the device will be released weeks out from when we see it on the FCC database. I think the DTEK50 was a few days before pre-order.

They can put a hold on releasing documents (like 30 days) even after it passed through the FCC.

Very good points OP. Yes they've been close to a month prior to release in the past.
I've been checking WFA almost daily looking for new BB certifications, haven't seen any. TCL had some recent certifications, but 1- I don't expect it to be under TCL, 2- The product name doesn't look like it's the BB.

But wouldn't it be listed unedr TCL or (TCT for North America) since they are taking care of the production/sales/marketing etc...

I'm checking both, but even dteks were under BB. If Merc is "in-house" then I assume it'll be BB taking care of the wifi certification.

The DTEKs were made by TCL for BlackBerry. The Mercury is a TCL device based on BlackBerry's in-house design and will be sold by TCL (or perhaps TCT) under the BlackBerry Mobile name.

This is again another example of the confusion caused by Chen opening his mouth. The Dtek devices were made for BlackBerry by TCL but BlackBerry was responsible for everything to do with those devices (sales, marketing, etc). The Mercury is all on TCL now. The design may have originally been BlackBerry's but now that the deal with TCL is official everything is passed on to them and all responsibility for mercury is theirs. So in house coming from Chen doesnt really mean anything.

Well... yes but I think there's more association with BB than you'd think. BB engineers are testing the device for example. In any case, I'm checking both at WFA.

Of course there is a close association. BlackBerry handles all the software and needs to optimize so naturally they would be testing devices.

    Right.
One or the other will certify the device and I couldn't care less who that is. NEED the phone. Yesterday.

If it's any consolation, the Priv was spotted passing FCC certification just ~2 weeks before release.

Manufacturer is TCL, not BlackBerry (as it was for the DTEK60). FCC should thereby be under TCL's Identifier.

So with the BBB100-2 being the North American version, the BBB100-1 version would then be for most of the rest of the world?
