Same as any other widget. Long hold and drag to remove.

Took me a minute to figure this one out too.

Pull down from top, choose settings(the gear icon). Then scroll down and open 'apps'.

Scroll down to one just called 'google', tap it, and choose 'disable!

    No, no.

He wants to get rid of the home screen widget - not disable the entire app!

Oh, the question was a bit vague so I thought maybe his goal was the same as mine when I went hunting.

    If not, then I apologise

Get rid of it!! Long hold and you'll get two options at the top of the screen. Remove or disable. Or you could just move it somewhere else like I did.

I may indeed want to disable it depending on what benefit it is of having the darn thing on. What do you gain by having it on?

It's probably my most used app.

It provides news feeds, trip information (boarding passes, flight changes, etc), weather alerts, sports updates, stock info, a search interface, localized info (restaurants, attractions, etc), calendar reminders, voice assistant, and more.

I disabled it on my S8. Never had a need for the search bar either.

Disabled Google entirely, or removed the widget off your home screen? Two different things.

Disabled the Google app itself along with removing the widget. There's certainly other aspects of Google running all over the OS, but I've seen no adverse effects to disabling just this app.Google bar at top of screen-screenshot_20171124-150618.png

I'm the same, was happy to be rid of it, and not missing anything so far.
